I started a keto lifestyle Dec 1/17. In four months i dropped 20 lbs but my Cholesterol levels have increased as have my PSA levels Is this a short term effect whilst the liver etc adjust to keto?

I don’t know about PSA, but total cholesterol will increase when losing weight and also on keto. This is because your HDL and LDL will increase. Once weight loss has stopped, LDL may decrease some, but you could find your total cholesterol and LDL are still higher than they were before.

Check out Dave Feldman’s Web site, www.cholesterolcode.com for information on what to do if your LDL goes up on keto (tl/dr: don’t worry, and if you eat right the three days before the test, you can manipulate the result). Also check out Ivor Cumming’s Web site, www.fatemperor.com.

Both these guys are engineers who have studied cholesterol extensively. They know more about the subject than a lot of professional lipidologists, even.

Also bear in mind Dr. Phinney’s point: “Blaming atherosclerosis on cholesterol is a lot like blaming fires on fire trucks.”
