Protein powders? And lean proteins

I understand that protein powders like whey and casein will spike my insulin. I take a scoop of optimum nutrition casein and whey after working out with heavy whipping cream and coconut oil. Kinda as a meal replacement. My net carbs are always less then twenty and total carbs are about forty give or take five. Will I still be fine and be in ketosis.

Also I know that you want low to moderate protein and high fats but I love tuna and chicken breast and some meat that is lighter on fat. Am I still fine to have these high protein foods and supplements as long as I make sure my macros are hit and I’m at 70+ percent fat?

The only way to know for sure is to measure your blood ketones.

I think that one of the things which prevented me from going into ketosis early on was the fact that I was consuming too much protein.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #3

Sounds kinky! But hey—as long as it’s between consenting adults . . . :grinning:

Sounds Messy :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I’m not weighing in on supplements, but as far as lower fat meats are concerned, I believe you’re right - for ketosis, as long as you’re hitting your macros, it doesn’t matter whether you’re eating a pound of limp bacon, or skinless chicken breast - as long as it’s smothered in hollandaise and resting on a bed of butter-soaked avocados. :yum:

Thanks guys I’ve been looking around and not a super clear response with the supplements. I think I might just pass on them. I’ve been on Keto only for three days so far so I’d rather stop now but so far so good with the diet. I can’t believe This diet is crazy. I’ve been eating less then 30 grams of fat every day for the past year and having less then 150 carbs. And waaaaayyy to much protein. It was to a point I hated meals so much and was under feeding myself. I know I’m still new but I have been fairly enjoying eating bacon and steak and ground beef and chicken that has some good natural fat. I’m excited to see what it feels like to be fat adapted and in ketosis

Yeah, one of the many benefits of keto - it’s just so much tastier!!

i have been using optimum nutrition for the last 2 weeks almost daily as kind of a meal replacement. i have been testing keytones and was still getting .6 on the blood test so it doesnt seem to be affecting me. we were off keto for a bit and I decided when we got back going 2 weeks ago i would add it to my workday routine. The first week i was worried it was going to keep me out of ketosis but by week 2 I started having keytone readings with the blood tester so I seem to be ok with it. Everyone is different though. One thing I can say is I think it is helping me be a little more satisfied during the day.
