Protein powder meal replacement

(Irene) #1

I ordered a Ketogenix meal replacement protein powder. I will be getting a lot of dental work the next few weeks and need soft meals. Does anyone know if drinking this daily with no other meals will kick me out of ketosis?

I don’t know about this particular one but protein powder shake diets killed lots of people in the 80’s… see Cambridge Diet.
One as a meal replacement per day while you can’t chew shouldn’t be an issue, but weeks of only shakes might be dangerous.

I’m seeing lots of scrambled eggs, cauliflower mash, ground beef caserole variations in your future. You can probably have most of your regular stuff but will have to take the time to cut it into exceedingly small pieces so as to not have to really chew it.

You can make a nice coffee shake, a bit like bullet proof coffee, that includes egg yolks to make it a more balanced meal. With egg yolks and the fats in the coffee it’s a bit like a liquid breakfast. I guess I’m suggesting that in addition to using the meal replacement once a day or so you might also be able to come up with some other meal like beverages that make your dental work a little bit easier.

Good luck with the dental work, hope it’s not too terribly painful.

Do you mind giving us the macros and calories per serving and ingredient list (a link to product)

You should be able to eat about anything you want. Just run it through a Food Processor.

Dr Fung talks about whey protein having a very high insulin effect so would avoid those. Might not kick you out of ketosis but would cause insulin spikes and stop fat loss.

Personally I have lots of soft foods in my keto diet that I eat regularly.

BPC
Mashed avo with cream
Scrambled Eggs (with cream or cream cheese)
Cauliflower mash with lots of cream, butter & feta cheese
Creamed spinach
Nut butters
etc etc

Thank you!. I will definitely look into that.

Being kinda new to this diet it’s hard to start learning how to makes soft food all of a sudden when my dentist stuff starts tomorrow lol. I just eat salads and little meat and cheese. Thank you for your reply. I will try some of that stuff.

(Irene) #10

That’s sounds awesome. I don’t drink coffee though. I wonder if that will make me feel sick. But I will still try that. I am a bit of a noob so I don’t mind trying new things. Thank you.

Of course. This is the link to what i got. The chocolate one too.https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B073V3Q332/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1523457822&sr=8-1&keywords=ketogenic%2Bmeal%2Breplacement&dpPl=1&dpID=41r0kPKHMXL&ref=plSrch&th=1&psc=1

Thank you !.. but honestly because I am so new to this type of eating habit. Just thinking about blending my meals doesn’t sound appealing. I guess what I am picturing you telling me is like putting my meats and salads together lol. I do have recipes for smoothies but they aren’t going to give me what I need for Keto. One small smoothie already uses all my carbs for the day.

(Irene) #13

That’s the hardest thing to learn for me. I am just learning how to eat on a Keto Diet, but I haven’t gotten much into the science of why we can’t have certain things. I don’t check my blood daily either. I will try the options you gave me though. That sounds yummy. I will also look into that information you gave me. Thank you.

Well good luck with it all.
I recently found the cauliflower bacon and cheese mash in the frozen section of grocer. Also rices cauliflower. So both are basically no work.
For salads and to get more healthy veg that I don’t necessarily like into me, I dice everything up super small, except the lettuce, but baby spring mix would be pretty easy as it’s not crunchy like romaine. It’s a lot of work dicing but in the end I have a super healthy salad and no one veg overpowers in taste because it is such a fine dice.
You could probably due sausage if you can buy it without or remove the casing. Then it would be a crumble.
Also miracle noodles or NUPasta can be cut and would simply slide on down with any chewing need. I do an Alfredo with the noodles, chicken (you’d have to cut super small) and broccoli and cauliflower (just overlook them a bit and they will mush when in your mouth) and pour Alfredo overtop. 5 carbs or so for the whole meal (net).
Could do taco salad. Make sure beef is crumbled well, season. Cut lettuce and tomato very small. Mix together. Add whatever other stuff you like cheese, peppers, etc. again probably if you take small spoonfuls you wouldn’t need to chew hardly at all. Again, good luck.

How about using the juices of the meats, with carb friendly veg boiled with them and blend… got yourself a nice homemade keto soup add some cream cheese and you have a delish creamy soup.

(Hoteski) #16

I use protein shakes from time to time btw. Check the carb content per serving and drink it eitb unsweetened almond milk as normal milk has lactose which is a milk sugar.

(Irene) #17

Oooooh. That does sound good!.. I will definitely try that. Thank you!.

Over easy eggs then mash up with fork so much tastier than scrambled :yum:
you can make slow cook stew which really soften up meat and veggies top with shredded cheese and sour cream :yum:

You protein drink is very low cal 160 and 5 net carbs per serving really not worth it
