Protein intake on keto?

(Keto Koala 🐨) #1

Hi guys, I am doing very well with very low carbs, I usually only have about 6grams a day and I have more of a percentage of fat than protein but it says for my size I should be eating only 20 % protein. I find this VERY hard to do. I got 35% protein today and I need to know if it matters. Does protein stop ketosis if you eat more than your meant to. I’m not even eating much and meat is what fills me up. Please I need advice

I eat around 60% fats, 30% protein, and the rest in carbs. I always manage to keep my fat intake much higher than my protein intake. I am not “carnivore” so I dont eat THAT much meat, but I will eat a small chicken breast (120g) or a medium steak of around 180g. I make up a lot of bulk in vegetables. I used to hate veg and found it so boring. But it is not when you make a cheese sauce or it roasts in the fat of a chicken or bacon! I think that eating a lot of veg also helps with constipation. But I need “interesting” veg. Brussels sprouts for example need to be fried in butter with bacon to make it tasty to me. I love cauliflower rice. Trick is you have to fry it and not cook it in water ( otherwise you get mash). I make myself thai curry with it and all the veg makes me eat less of the meat.

Wow thankyou. I had to eat lean mince as the grass fed fatty stuff was sold out.

Percentages are next to worthless. Your need for proteins should be based on lean body mass, not caloric intake.

And the guesstimate of the fats macro can be satisfied by stored body fat as well as ingested fat, so there’s no telling what percentage of your calorie intakes would need to be fats.

Set your macros in grams. The proteins macro is a lower limit. The carbs and fats macros are upper limits.

So add your own fats if you want to, or just don’t stress it.
