Protein and calories

(Lani ) #1

So I have been on my ketogenic journey for the past 6 months and I have hit my plateau. It’s been a couple of weeks and I have noticed it is hard to meet me protein macros and I am going over in my calories from fat. Everything that has higher protein eother has higher carbs or moderate fat. How do I equal everything out???

Surely you can just try lean meats rather than fatty ones? Chicken breast (skinless), white fish, pork tenderloin, etc. They have high protein and low fat content.

That said, if you haven’t heard Carl’s podcast about breaking through his plateau, you should. He went the opposite way - much higher fat and damn the calories.

You look like a lean person so that advice may well not be appropriate to you. Check what @Emacfarland and @KetoLikeaLady write all around here since they are lean, plateaued/maintaining women.

Thanks for the shout out, but I wouldn’t say I’m lean or maintaining…just stuck at the same weight since basically the day I started keto, about a year ago…

Sorry for the misrepresentation. My weight loss goal is to drop about as much as you weigh :flushed: so sometime relativity trumps precision in my head

Still, we’ve followed your exhaustive plateau breaking strategies over the months and regardless of your success, I still think Lani should find lots of ideas in your posts.

Thanks man, I appreciate that.

eat 1 meal + balance it out with olive oil shots or plain chicken breast at the end of the day

I would do that sometimes if I fall under my macros specifically

You could switch out the balancers for other clean whole macro foods like
pure egg white or pure coconut oil

Chicken will be my new best friend I think. I have no issues with my fat, always over. It’s just my protein I need to get under control. We buy grass fed beef (a months supply at a time) from a ranch outside of town so we are always eatting beef.
I was also worried that going over in my fat might not be so good or cause a plateau but I as I read forums online, apparently that looks to not be the case. But I don’t really know for sure.

You could try carton egg whites or nutritional yeast too or even WHEY!

I use pork rinds for a protein snack too but I’d rather stick to whole foods.

I was actually thinking about whey, but was concerned on the carbs. But I guess I’ll just have to be aware as to what i buy

Isopure or some Isolate will do!

and porkrinds are incomplete protein so idk about using it as a protein source

finally look into tuna and baby clams or even better shrimp!

you will be surprised that such a species literally has like no fat!

I actually just bought some shrimp! Definately great for protein. Nothing better than garlic butter shrimp.
I will also look into the whey as well. I usually only have two meals a day with a couple snacks in between, as I fast in the morning with nothing more than bulletproof coffee
