yeah I VPN’ed to be able to see it
Protein adverts immoral
Yes, weight lifters don’t concern themselves with bodyfat, they want to get big to focus on weight lifted. They never want to go catabolic so they likely do overdo the protein.
I actually LOWERED my protein recently. Like, right after the 30 day steak challenge. I had been eating 100 to 120 grams a day (aside from when I temporarily ate zero carb), for over three years. I decided to eat a more reasonable amount because protein waste is not necessary (burning it for fuel). I learned about the range of many experts for grams of protein per lb LBM from Rosedale to bodybuilding forums. I picked a number right in the middle. .55 grams per lb LBM. That’s the low end of Stephen Phinney’s suggested range. Then I had a DEXA scan. I’ll have another right before KetoFest. If my increasing strength is any indication, I am successfully building lean mass.
Today I easily lifted 700 lbs on the free weight leg press. Full lifts.
Not interested in the exacting specifics. I’m not a bodybuilder or a competitor.
I think @canketo you are spot on here. For those of us into our exercise and fitness we would generally know what we can and more importantly the consequences of our actions. The great thing about the net is we can research this.
Though many would not research and just believe the sales pitch and hype. The problem comes when crap like Mars sticks protein in and tries to pretend it is an ‘healthy’ option and the normal Joe Bloggs consumer is then confused.
and for most people in the street etc this is not an issue.
Interesting on twitter I am having this discussion with someone into body building. Now he has a fat problem so Keto is not for him but on protein I pointed him towards this thread etc.
The question for him and many others by having these powders does it really help to get to where he wants to get (not the extreme end). Therefore he can watch the vid where Ali put on 1KG of muscle without protein supplement in 6 weeks, that by anyone standards is good. Yet Ali went back to protein supplementation as he could not eat as recommended 5/6 meals a day.
the thing is with Keto you do not have to do this as fat fills you and fat is the missing topic in this wider debate to the public.
thing is people are often both having chicken and a shake and not one or the other. So fine if you want the odd extra 50g but when upwards of that, eat food.
