Probably obvious, but reminder for other newbies

If taking medicine check it! Just took some NyQuil for a sore throat & headache. Apparently thanks to the high fructose corn syrup it was 19 grams of carbs, 13 from sugar.
Still under 30ish I think, but man…

Great reminder - thanks!

Yeah, they sneak that stuff into EVERYTHING!!

I almost took TUMS after eating breakfast sausage this weekend. Then I thought better of it for the same reason.

But it begs the question, what are the alternatives that actually work?

Liquid NyQuill is basically cold and flu tablets, cough drops, and sleeping tablets all rolled into one. Usually you can get the 3 individual components in the form of tablets and sugar free lozenges and take them together. Some tablets will contain starch or sugar as bulking agents so you do have to check and this info is usually not on the box so you normally have to check online. Also, it goes without saying, you should never mix medications without talking to a doctor or pharmacist. Even mixing over the counter meds can lead to death if not done properly. It’s all a bit of a faff but worth it if it means you can go to sleep feeling slightly less miserable.

I just realized my melatonin contains dextrose, Maltodextrin and modified food starch. Soooo pissed!

My wife is big into homeopathic meds. But I reminded her a lot of those have lactose and sucrose as two of the three ingredients. Literally sugar pills with natural stuff that supposedly makes you feel better.

She said they make sugar-free & dairy-free, but I told her for the cost we’re not getting more just 'cause I have a cold for a day or two. :stuck_out_tongue:
