Preggo/Nursing and Keto

(Judy Martinez) #1

FOR THE LADIES: I have a pregnant mom (due Dec) who will want to also nurse her baby and is eager to start Keto (a newbie) shortly after birth. Should she wait a few months? Or what has been the experience of other moms? Should she adhere to the general rule of under 20-30 net per day?

Wait until breastfeeding is well established.
Say 2-3 weeks.

I agree either start it now or start it a few weeks (months) after when things have adjusted back to “normal”. I’d probably start cutting carbs now so that the worst of the adaptation is over by the time baby comes. I wouldn’t want to transition to keto with a newborn, your body is going through enough shit at that point, then you add “oh by the way, we’re switching to burning fat now” seems like a lot. Add to that a newborn and possible lack of sleep. Seems like a terrible idea to me.
