Pre & Post Workout Recovery?

(Shane Allgood) #1

So I was reading the following article (http://www.jimstoppani.com/home/articles/to-carb-or-not-to-carb?preview) and I wanted to get some of your opinions on an alternative to the recovery of Glycogen in muscles post workout. I have a couple of questions:

  1. Would you replace the gummy bears with fats? If so, what fats MCT, Heavy Whipping and would it have the same results.
  2. Do you know of any Pre or Post Keto Approved?

The concentration of muscle glycogen restoration is funny. What you are doing is increasing the rate in which the body has glycogen restored. Okay cool, so what? What does it mean? Nothing. Unless you’re an there working out multiple times a day you don’t need to do anything. By not eating you restore glycogen too. It’s not necessary.

  1. Eat s meal and ear to satiate yourself.

  2. Coffee is an amazing pre workout, caffeine in general. Honestly I’ll have 4 eggs and be good or even lift fasted with great results.

  3. Dr. Stoppani is getting sued for some of his claims.

  4. Muscle growth doesn’t care about glycogen. It cares if it has the protein building blocks and an energy source to use.

Dr. Peter Attia discusses replenishing muscle glycogen while in ketosis without eating additional carbohydrates.

We are “told” that without carbohydrates we can’t synthesize glycogen (i.e., we can’t store glucose). However, those who promote this idea fail to realize that glycerol (the backbone of triglycerides) is turned into glycogen, along with amino acids, not to mention the 20 to 40 gm of carbohydrates I consume each day (since my brain doesn’t need them). We know muscles still store glycogen in ketosis, as this has been well studied and documented via muscle biopsies by Phinney, Volek, and others.

these people who hang onto Carbs !! we create our own !!

SO what do I have after a big ride, loads of fat, usually cream, a big steak and nuts. Excess protein is fine as of course this in itself gets turn to carbs.

Have I ever mentioned I love Dr Peter !!

For those of us who do 10hours plus a week of exercise then the amount of protein eaten is not so key …

BTW doing cycling without bonking is possibly the best thing ever !
