Potassium Citrate in "Clear American" drink?

#1

Hi all. I’m curious about this.
One of my sons purchased me a couple of bottles of Zero Clear American, cherry flavor as a small gift. Looking at the ingredients I see “potassium citrate” listed as an ingredient. It doesn’t list how much it contains per serving.
Cronometer doesn’t count any potassium, so I wonder if it is an insignificant amount or something I should track so I don’t get too much potassium if I drink this stuff.
Anyone know more than me? Thaks!!

Don’t worry about it, I don’t think there are any carbs in potassium citrate. I’m sure it’s not going to push your potassium into the “Danger Zone”.

I realize this was a bit of a crazy question!

They don’t list potassium amounts, so I presume it isn’t much, but I just wonder. Not worried about carbs in this drink. I tried looking it up online, but didn’t find anything.

I wonder about “hidden” potassium in items. For instance, I wonder if there is any or much in the herbal teas I have started to drink. Again, probably not much, if any.

Somewhere a while back someone warned that it is easy to over consume potassium because it is not listed in some foods or drinks and that stayed with me.

I tend to aim for around 3000 mg to 3500 mg potassium, but no more. I’m usually around 3000 mg total daily but when I eat salmon and certain veggies it can go close to 3500 mg.

Does anyone else here get this much potassium daily? I wonder if I am the norm or the odd person out.

Anyway, thanks for responding!!

I see the same thing on diet Mt. Dew and wondered as well. Thanks for asking.

Potassium, sodium and magnesium are all tied together metabolically. You’re kidneys get rid of excess potassium and regulate it. You don’t need to stress about any of this. I was potassium restricted for 10 years on dialysis. I had to not eat much healthy potassium heavy vegetables, fruit and dairy because my kidney didn’t eliminate excess. I have a new kidney now and have no worries. I eat avocados regularly. I use some tomatoes and I eat cheeses. I get monthly blood work and potassium is always in line. If potassium put into drinks was dangerous and eating salmon, herbal tea and any vegetables whatever they are we would be all warned to avoid potassium rich foods. You’re not even eating potatoes anymore!

Stress is worse for you than any potassium in your food. You can get in trouble with lite salt over 1/2 t daily which many people here add to their drinking water to help keep electrolytes up. Just work on keeping your carb count under 20 grams a day and it will all be good. You’re body is an amazingly tolerant machine that keeps minerals in order without your conscious intervention as long as you have them in your diet.

Thank you for that encouragement!

While I have read others state what you said, I continually read people cautioning not to get too much. So I sometimes worry.

I’ve had a few blood tests in past months (one as part of a physical) and have been told my kidneys are healthy, so I shouldn’t worry.

I’ve been eating this way since July 26th, 2018. But I do track everything I eat and drink and am very careful about carbs. I’ve lost over 95 lbs, but have a lot more to lose!

Thank you!

I think mostly of people supplementing potassium being at risk if anything. If you’re kidneys are working you’ll be fine with dietary potassium.

Thank you! I just worry about things sometimes. I also don’t like to not know what’s in things.
