Hi all–I have a friend who has undergone a long anticipated kidney transplant and is now living with a daily regime of anti-rejection meds and steroids. She has tried an Atkins type diet in the past to help ease some weight issues but fell away from it. My question to the group is this–can anyone point us toward science in re: the use of keto to ameliorate the side effects of these necessary therapies that she, as a transplant recipient must adhere to. I know that she felt good when she tried changing it up before and I’d love to encourage her to try again but as always one hesitates as it’s so very much against the grain and she is medically complicated.

If she lost her kidney from diabetes then Keto is marvelous.
I doubt Keto and kidney transplant is well studied
Ask her kidney doctors if they approve of her losing weight with a no sugar, low starch, Mediterranean diet.
