A bit of my history:
I’ve been following the Keto WOE for about 5 and a half months now. I am down nearly 70 lbs, so I think that it is working well for me. As a nearly 39 yow (starting weight 335, cw 265), I feel like that is good progress, I have been dabbling with OMAD, 20:4 eating, and a few 30ish hour fasts. Haven’t really found my groove on that front yet.

I am on hour 19, planning to eat in about 2 hours. Anyways, I just decided to test my blood glucose (I thought I might start tracking it) and I got a reading of 13 mmol/L! :open_mouth: What the hell is going on? Should I ask my Dr. for a test to see if everything is okay the next time I’m in?

I had black coffee about 4 hours ago and have drunk about 8 cups of water so far today. Would this affect the results? Should I be concerned (I’m not, yet) or just curious?

Wash your hands and retest… if you get a wacky reading like that its always worth doing another one just in case your finger was corrupted with something that effected the reading.

I just retested and is says 12.7 mmol/L.

Hmm that’s quite high are you feeling ok as illness does funny things to blood sugars… what brand of meter are you using?

Thats your first ever test? I would test over a few days and see how it rolls. 12.7 isn’t an emergency. But it shouldnt normally be that high especially on keto and especially having not eaten for ~20 hours.

I am interested to see the updates.

I feel fine. I have been dealing with an infected tattoo, but have been off of the antibiotics for over a month now. I have been dealing with a runny nose as well, but I just attributed it to teaching first and second graders…

I’m using a OneTouch Ultra2. It’s older (I borrowed it off my mom, fresh lancents though).

ETA: I tested back in August and I it was 7.8

ETA2: Just looking at the testing strips… EXP 2014, would this make a difference?

Its more the age of the strips they can go off… might be worth keeping an eye on… and getting an HbA1c next time you are at the docs… I might even say get one sooner rather than later…that will show an average of your bloods over the past 8-12 weeks so will give a better indication. I’m pretty sure they do those in Canada although they do seem to use single finger pricks to diagnose which is kind of odd…

Cross posted… if strips have expired then throw them away… they’ll be useless…

Just noticed that, thanks! I’ll be picking up some fresh ones the next time I’m out! Now if I could just find a face palm emoji!

Don’t worry we’ve all done it…
Test strips are especially sensitive to storage conditions and age. You almost had me worried there!
