I’m bought on this keto lifestyle and would like to plan before getting started. My question is (1) what is the best way to plan for my transition and (2) what mistakes did you make in your transition that you can advise me against? Lastly, should i detox before getting started?
Please advise as I make this transition
- Best way to plan? Read this forum avidly for a week.
- Lessons? Do keto first, take your time, then fast, and take your time doing that. Always go gently.
- Detox? No. You will detox naturally as you do keto.
Enjoy the process as well as the results.
Good for you.
Question 1. Start now. Simply cut down on carbs, right down, and your in. Then just ask more questions, plenty of good knowledgeable people here to help along your path.
Question 2. The only mistake you will make is not starting now.
Question 3. Read the above.
Thanks for your response aand have already started on decreasing carbs. …Ate cashews today during lunch and did not realize the carb content.
Yes, cashews not the best nuts on keto. Macadamias are much better, but the problem is they are so yummy I always overeat them!! Portion bags are the answer, but even then I would eat 4 portioned bags at a time. My old bingeing habits coming back…
I also had crabs on yesterday and did vomit the whole half dozen and was wondering what caused this. Did this have anything to do with the bulletproof Coffee i had earlier in the day or is this perhaps an isolated incident?k
And do start now, “loose keto” is essentially easy. Just drop all the obvious carbs: bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, and fill up on green leafy veg and fatty meat, with sides of fatty sauces and butter. Easy. And you will essentially be 90% there!
And don’t forget the easiest and best keto meal: bacon and eggs!
Thank you too newtoketonot, my replies are to both you and Alecmcd. Thanks for your input…i hope i know when i’m there (in ketosis).
My pleasure, If you cut your carbs right down, as has been said already, you will end up in Ketosis. Just take the first step, do not be afraid, take that step. Take it now. Do not worry about mistakes, we all make mistakes, they can be rectified , you have your whole life in front of you, the fact that your are here on this Forum, means you are serious about taking control of you life. Just go for it. Take back control. Cut the carbs, and then cut them more. You don’t need them. Of course there is a bit more to learn, but as mentioned, you are here, and many knowledgeable people are here to help you have a magnificent life.
“When is the best time to plant a tree ?” “yesterday”.
If you feel sick, as though you have the flu, increase your salt. We need a lot more sodium in our diet than the government recommends, and once we stop eating carbs, our kidneys excrete salt at a faster rate. According to a couple of recent studies, the sweet spot for sodium intake is at 5.0 grams a day.
If you think you’re not getting enough salt, broth is a good solution, because you need more water on keto, for the same reason you need more salt. Homemade bone broth is easy to make and very yummy, but a bouillon cube in a cup of hot water will do just as well. (Avoid the low-salt cubes, of course!)
I just started so can’t give too much advice; however, I will say meal prepping helps keep me on track. I find it prevents me from reaching to foods I shouldn’t have due to convenience, or me giving in to going to lunch with co-workers to a “not so healthy place.”
Good luck on the transition!
I’d have to echo everyone in saying start immediately. Every day you wait is a day you could be using to get fat adapted. Ketosis is your short term goal, fat adaption is your medium term goal, and by the time you get to fat adaption you’ll have figured out your long term goals. Start now. Learn as you go.
