Phentermine... helpful tool or evil pharmaceutical?

Hi everyone! First post, and I’m looking for some advice to take to my next doctor appointment.

SW 214
CW 205 (take with a grain of salt, below)
5’3" female 34yo
Began keto 2/20/18
Macros: 20g carbs/70g protein/125g fat/1490cal
Allergies: Dairy, egg, beef, soy, peanut, wheat/gluten

After 2 months keto, my doctor (a naturopathic weight loss/allergy specialist) wasn’t satisfied with my lack of weight loss (209 on 04/24) and asked me to try a half-dose of phentermine for two weeks. I’ve been doing it, and it certainly works, but it seems like a terrible idea that isn’t addressing the unknown underlying problem. She thinks it will “jump start” my metabolism, and I’ll keep burning fat at a faster rate.
What do you guys think? Does that sound like bunk?

I never cheat (I’m allergic to every good cheat anyway!) but I do tend to be lazy about tracking on the weekends. I have BPC for breakfast, meals tend to be a meat and veg with coconut oil, and snacks are a fat bomb or salted avocado. Doc is totally on board with my diet, but she’s looking for results.
Should I ask her to discontinue the phentermine? I’m certainly not going up to a full dose. Thanks for your input!
Edited to add: what improvements can I make here? I’d like to bring up some alternatives to pills.

This stuff looks like a band-aid approach like most contemporary medical treatments, never the root cause being addressed just something to put money in the pockets of the greedy!

Agree! I’m just not sure what to adjust to get results without it!

You’ve only been Keto two months? What you should do is check back with that Dr in a year. This way of healing yourself takes time.

THIS^^^^^
@jessicamieko
We don’t put the weight on in a couple of months, why does anyone expect it to all go away in a couple of months?

As an alternative to a pill how about a fasting protocol? If you haven’t done so read Dr. Fung’s book on fasting Complete Guide to Fasting… Fasting ups your metabolism without man made chemicals. The electrolytes, you need to keep those up, sodium, potassium and magnesium. Most of that can be gotten from foods, you might need to supplement them since you have a lot of allergies.

Good luck on sorting yourself out. It is so worth the effort and time.

Then what after the “ jump start “?
Where is the science on this “ burning fat faster ?:flushed:

Just like CICO, for me way before
Band aid, quick results w weight loss

I agree with the other posts.
Give KETO time and or Fast
Keep asking questions
And you know ur body best😄

Good Luck!

Thanks everyone, the reminder to change my thinking is actually really helpful. I’m so used to seeing people with crazy fast results (thanks, facebook!) that I forget to respect the journey sometimes.

My hormone doctor has suggested the same thing with Phentermine. I am on day three of trying it with same half dose (break pill in half) first thing in the morning. So far, I am wide awake 2-3 hours after my normal bedtime and not sleeping as well as I normally do. I do not have any jitters or other affects. I don’t feel drowsy next day. I have tons of energy and am pretty motivated to do physical work like raking leaves and cleaning house so its definitely boosting my energy. I have been on Keto since March of 2019 and am stuck and have been for over a year after loosing 70 lbs easily. I am giving it a try as I need to get the last 45 lbs off so I can start a walking program even with my bad knees (no pain, just no cushion). Keto has been great and I don’t plan to change. Just needed a boost.
