Pets and cancer

Not sure were to post.Our dog has got lumps the vet says it cancer .Question if I change the dogs diet to a pure meat diet at the moment he eats blue buffalo dry foo will this help with the progression as he will be having no sugar ?

I believe (not an expert, but just reading materials from cancer specialists) that fasting is the therapy for shrinking and eliminating cancer cells (in humans). This would equate to not feeding your dog for like a week…not sure I would do that…I would not have the heart to do that…very traumatic.

I had a cat who developed cancer about two years ago. I followed the vet’s advice, and did the therapy. The cat is doing great today…really healthy. I was also doing keto at the time, and it struck me that the cat should be eating less carby crap and all meat diet. I changed the diet to all protein sources. But, I did this after the cancer therapy.

I am sorry you are going through this. I hope all things will get better for you.

I have 2 dogs. The geriatric had a bout of pancreatitis about a decade ago and so we had to put him on a special diet for dogs with pancreatitis which is low fat and mostly made from rice. It was a horrible diet but that was what vets thought you needed to do back then for dogs with pancreatitis. About 5 years later he developed a lump that turned out to be a malignant sarcoma which was removed in 2 operations. Subsequently he started developing lumps all over and of course we were paranoid about each one … but they were all a kind of slow moving tumour called a fatty lipoma.

The other dog had a tumour on her adrenal gland and developed diabetes as a result. We put her on a ketogenic diet to minimize her glucose excursions and about 2 years ago we switched both dogs to raw meat (Kangaroo mince fortified with beef fat) diets.

The geriatric dog now has much fewer lipomas and no new ones are developing. I’m not sure if that is a factor of his age or diet. But he is doing a LOT better now he’s off that horrible low fat diet.

Thanks Richard I believe in this high fat thing . I’m a huge Noakes fan I have been following him from when he started in 2010. Before even Karin’s conference in ct I have run that comrades he talks about 10 times last one 15 years ago I carbo loaded re tims book. Weigh less now than when I was running huge distance why I keep going back when I lose focus I don’t get as much muscle soreness I’m 55. Still run can do half marathon in 2 hrs and the best part the next day I can hike no soreness I’m a South African living in Canada will keep you posted on our dogs journey

I have been doing a little research as well into raw meat and bone feeding for cancer for our dogs, but it does seem a little daunting. Three of our dogs have cancerous tumors right now, another has bad skin allergies, and one is a geriatric diabetic with bowel issues. We have one dog with no medical issues, he’s just an asshole.

I’m not sure if I can get my husband on board, however, because the last time we fed raw it didn’t turn out well.

Good luck with your dog, hope you find a good solution.

If you go to a meat diet, make sure you do the research on recipes so he gets the correct nutrition. Blue Buffalo is better than side brands, but still pretty high in carbs.

You might want to check these people out too. They have a place in Georgetown, TX, but also a website and some youtube videos. They might have some documentation or suggestions. I haven’t checked the site out in detail because I have cats, but I have heard good things.

This Netflix show on the pet food industry completely changed my mind about how I’m feeding my dog. I bought the Truth About Pet food list ($10 - www.truthaboutpetfood.com) and I’m switching to one of those listed, and then transitioning him over to raw food diet.

Sadly it’s too late for my lovely Lily who has lymphoma, but I’m with you. Will be feeding all of our pets a raw food diet in the future.

Raw is such an amazing change in dogs it is incredible! My wife has put our dogs on raw for the past few years and has changed our dogs lives in comparison to their kibble-fed friends! So glad your pups are also doing so well. I always joke “i eat my dogs food all day” just gets heated up first lmao!
