Perhaps an ignorant question but

Can blood meters give any indication to insulin sensitivity or insulin resistance?

Sorry if that question makes no sense, I am just trying to understand what other ‘information’ a meter can tell me.

I can’t seem to get any of my blood sugar readings under 5. Not at the times I’ve tested anyway, so tomorrow I will test in a fasted state, which is hard because I have a coffee first thing in the morning and team that with dawn phenomenon and it won’t really provide an accurate result, lol.

Not as far as a fasting insulin level, but you can test foods for an insulin response. It’s not super scientific (especially given the margin of error for meters), but you can take a baseline reading, then again at 30,60,90 minutes, and maybe even at 2 hours. You’re looking for the initial spike (which may or may not happen), followed by a significant drop. The drop would suggest an insulin response.

I’m sure someone will explain it way better than I can. @richard covered it in a podcast, but I can’t remember which one.

Oh thanks for explaining it, I understand now.
I will try and test tomorrow, thank you TJ!
