Peeing a lot

(jim Chiodo) #1

After a almost a year on Keto and loosing 70+, I had a few days where I had to “go” very frequently. (as often as needing to go urgently sometimes as close as 20 minutes with a lot of volume each time). Note: I had gotten up to go a couple times during the night which I rarely do. I also went a couple times in the morning. The 20 minute intervals were when I was outside in 25 degree weather.

Some background. I’m 73, I’ve been taking Finasteride for prostate and Flowmax for most of the year. As indicated, Flowmax, helps the flow which previously was pretty weak. (Yes, I can’t power wash the bowl like when I was 18).

Doc ordered a urine test this last week, but it came back negative for infection. Since the test and results, I haven’t gone as much. Doc didn’t have an answer aside from “are you drinking too much coffee or caffeine soda” which the answer is zero,
Doc said sometime spicy foods can irritate bladder but haven’t eaten anything spicy.

Someone said it might be due to artificial sweeteners. I use Stevia in a cheesecake I made last week, but I’ve made that a half dozen times over last six months

I also take about a teaspoon of Myralax in the morning sprinkled on eggs or on a small bowel of Fiber One cereal. This was my final solution for constipation and has worked. I don’t like the carbs in the cereal but it’s only a 1/2 cup or less with just enough 1/2&1/2 to make it wet. I

Has anyone else had similar experience? I’d hate to have to wear a depend when I’m out doing stuff, especially when not hear a bathroom.

Yes when I drink water to near excess. I will pee often and a lot and urine is as clear as water.

I welcome these wooshes because Zi tend to retain water.

I am 68 and have been on Flomax for years. Good Med if you can tolerate the stuffy sinus.

Nocturia can be a sign of:
-Diabites
-UTI

  • Kidney Reflux Disease
  • Irritable bladder

Your past history suggests that a Doctor would need to do further tests to figure out the cause…I simply listed that there can be several causes and these several causes can account for the polyuria you are experiencing during the day as well.

Your Doctor is correct about asing about caffine ect. Are you on any BP meds? Those can also cause frequent urination.

Point is- While Keto can cause frequent elimination due to its diuretic properties… in this case it is likely somthing more then that.

Naturopathically - Taking Cranberry Capsules and Probiotics can help reduce the likelihood of bacteria sticking to the walls of your urethra and bladder by changing the PH. It might worth having a discussion with your Doc about it.

Best of luck

Update. Keep in mind this (peeing) is a very recent occurrence. I’ve been taking the meds, including Miralax for most of the past year.

I do not drink exceesively, In fact, I probably don’t drink as much as I should, hence the need for Miralax to keep “things” moist down there. Drinking huge amounts of water is something I’ve never been able to do or make myself do.

Whoosh effect, maybe? Did you lose several pounds over the few days you were going frequently?
