Ive just dipped my urine for the first time and it was 4.0 (moderate)
Is this a good reading?
Pee strips
I’ve been using them for about 8 days now and they range from small to large. I’ve read that it depends on how hydrated you are as well. If you a little dehydrated the strips will read darker.
The pee strips show you that you’re having ketones in your blood that are not being used and excreted as urine. It can be reassuring in the beginning but most people don’t use them here. You could be in ketosis and not have them show up significantly because your body is using them up for energy. You stated that you know about hydration affects your results. An indicator of why they’re kind of not useful really, just a guesstimate at best.
Yes that’s a good reading.
But please note those pee stix are not accurate for two reasons. The time of day the “measurement’ is taken matters a lot.
And there are several types of ketones your body makes - the type measured by those stix is only produced in the begging of keto-adaption, after a few weeks you’d hope to see a reading of zero on those sticks.
Similarly the blood analysers are more accurate but time of day affects their result as well.
It’s like chasing shadows. It can be unnecessarily disappointing.
The best thing to measure is your carbs with a good app. Stick to that and everything should take care of itself. Watch the waistline or hips melt away (over a month, not one day of course).
Cheers
I’m testing my urine , does that not show they’re being excreted in my urine?
