Paying it forward with a YouTube channel

(Mike) #1

I have decided to answer Carl and Richards call to pay it forward with a YouTube channel. My idea is below. I was hoping for some advice and any suggestions you might have.

The channel will be called RavenWolf Kitchen (We live on an old farm we call RavenWolf so I thought I could tie some less regular content, not on the same channel, as RavenWolf Garage and RavenWolf Games)

The initial focus will be on make-ahead keto recipes that can be frozen with a food saver/vacuum sealer for easy freezer to pot (simmer in a bag) meals later. We do this often and I have a library of food in the freezer including Chili, Chili Verde, Taco Meat, Smoked chicken and ribs, pulled pork, carnitas, etc…). We also have pork chops and steaks pre-seasoned and ready to drop in the Sous Vide.

I’ll do one recipe a week then have a couple shorts on topics like devices (Food saver, instant pot, etc…) and ingredient discussions (Mostly discussions about the main ingredient in this weeks recipe)

I also have hundreds of my grandmothers recipes going back from about 10 years ago to the 40’s so I was thinking I could look for keto ready or keto adaptable recipes in there (She must have had stock in 4x6 cards)

I was unsure about using other recipes as I intend to have a free e-book each year with all that years’ recipes. I am thinking this precludes being able to use recipes from the show or other sources?

I was also thinking about putting the first few videos up as private and share the links here so you guys can rip em to shreds before I release them publicly. I am pretty new to video editing in the modern era (My exp was in the late 70s with splicing videotape in high school AV class!)

So there you go, any suggestions or thoughts for a first timer?

PS been Keto for a year and a half, went from 255Lbs to 220 and am pretty stuck at that weight. Going to try some short fasts in Feb so I may do a short topic on that as well. As long as I stay low carb I don’t need the beta blocker I took for over 10 years and I feel 10 years younger. THANKS 2 KETO DUDES (And now the Dudette)

You can totally do both videos and a book. Most people doing a recipe don’t want to watch their way through a video. You can also leave out the exact proportions of ingredients in the video.

Yeah, I know what you mean, in my initial test video I pre-cut and measured all the ingredients into small bowls then quickly add them one at a time as I state what and how much. My goal is that each video has to be as short as possible but no shorter

I am aiming for 5-7 minutes top with the shorts being 2-3 minutes

This came up as a suggested topic, and I realize you initially posted all of this a year ago --and it seems like a great idea, did anything come of it? Did you do any videos or anything?

I had a lot of issues with the time it takes and the absolute destruction of the kitchen with lights and video equipment. In the end I still liked the idea of a YouTube Channel so I started a Retro Tech channel last month. I still plan to do some occasional keto recipes once I learn the ropes. When I do they will be on a channel called RavenWolf Kitchen (The retro tech channel is RavenWolf Retro Tech)

Okay, that is very cool, when you get it up and going, maybe update this so we can all watch? Thanks for responding, best wishes with it.
