Parotid (Salivary) Gland Infection

(Athena) #1

Hi,

I woke up yesterday and realized I have another salivary gland infection. I had one of these 3 years ago. At that time, oral antibiotics didn’t work and I ended up in the hospital for 5 days on two different IV antibiotics. I really hope oral antibiotics work this time and I don’t end up in the hospital again.

When I had it 3 years ago, I had active diabetes and was told by doctors I got the salivary gland infection because I had diabetes. Well, I reversed my diabetes last year. Am I just prone to salivary gland infections? Does anyone know why I have it again?

Thanks!

No idea, but please see your dr. ASAP. Roger Ebert died from cancer of the salivary glands. So this is not something to just let slide. My husband had one that tended to get “plugged up” but not infected, so the dr. decided the best course was to remove it. He hasn’t had a salivary gland issue since then. Hope you get it taken care of quickly.

Oh, I’m sorry I did I not make it clear that I have been given oral antibiotics, just like the last time. If there is no improvement within 2 days I am to notify my doctor, who, I assume, will put me in the hospital for IV antibiotics, just like last time. I hope this doesn’t happen.
