I love that. I just learned last year from my grandma on my dads side, that my other grandma always gave me something to eat when I fell and was crying to distract me. Often sweet… that grandma was T2 and died from complications when I was little I might add…

I still struggle to this day with that pattern… I make better choices. Often I can resist, but it is deeply engrained…

I see that kind of behaviour from so many parents near me. Child is crying / hurt / upset so fed them something to distract them. Most often they really just need maybe a quick hug or some other sort of attention. It’s very sad as it does, as you know Claudia, create habits for life :slightly_frowning_face:

And most often than not it is refined carbs where I live (croissant or other cardboard bread bun)

Goldfish. Cheerios. I’m cringing as I watch my granddaughter enjoy these ongoing ‘soothing’ snacks. Her parents are good about whole foods at meal times and she’s never had formula or jar baby food, etc. She LOVES meat and cheese! So I have hope.

Knowing where my habits came from has helped me identify other ways to comfort myself. ‘What fires together, wires together’ in neurobiological terms. So unwiring takes time. and keto. I’m finding those foods have less and less appeal!

"Based on our growth charts, 20-25% of two- to five-year-olds are already overweight or obese. It’s a major problem, a tough nut to crack“
