Ox Bile and TUDCA for Bile and Bowel Movements without a Gall Bladder

(Keith Kantorczyk) #1

Anyone without a gall bladder tried Ox Bile or TUDCA to help with bile and bowel movements? My bowels have been sluggish for years and worse now with Keto high fat eating.

None of the above.

I had my gall bladder removed something like 10 years ago, but have never had issues from that. I was pretty much a daily Metamucil user before that and kept using it. (Is that a better-sounding way of saying “Metamucil addict?”)

Good luck.

It makes sense to me that more bile would help, there.

No gall bladder for 11 years here. Not been much of a thing. I think there’s a lot of individual variation. My wife and mother-in-law are the same.

I assume that your bile duct goes right into the small intestine, and (if you had the gall bladder removed surgically) that the doctor sealed off the place where the gall bladder was connected. So bile from the liver is always going into the small intestine, rather than the more pulsatile additions with a gall bladder.

If anything, I think this makes for more bowel movements - bile is present more often in the large intestine, and this stimulates more muscle contractions and the release of water by the lining of the intestine - both make for ‘more.’

Obviously, this does not apply to you. So, I’d think that additional bile might work. Additional fiber in the diet may be something to try, too.

I have been without a gall bladder for 22 years now. I have tried ox bile, and I didn’t really notice a difference. Eating keto helped a lot with the minor problems I had on occasion, and I have had no problems at all since going carnivore. I hear that some people have problems with carnivore but it has been a blessing to me.
