Overconsuming sugar can damage the kidneys so they can no longer reabsorb the over 3 pounds of salt that they filter everyday. Once your kidneys are damaged to a certain point they will start spilling salt. This is known as salt-wasting nephropathy. Sugar can also damage the heart and intestine which can cause sodium deficiency in the blood or throughout the entire body.
