Opinion on “Gone rogue protein chips“?

Has anyone had these? Good for keto or no?

The Fat:Protein Grams

The Fat:Protein Grams need to be the same for it be a stand alone ketone food.

That means if it has 5 grams or Protein it needs to have close to 5 Gram of fat to ensure your Keto Macro Percentages are right.

The Fat in this is 5 grams(45 calories). The protein on the label that I just looked up is 18 grams (72 calories.

That mean the Fat content is almost 39% and the Protein content is almost 62% for the protein chips.

You usually want your Fat Percentage to be around 70% and your Protein Percentage no more than 25%.

If your Protein intake is too high, it kicks you out of ketosis.

With in mind…

  1. Know your Keto Macro Percentages.

  2. Read the labels and calculate the percentages.

Combining Them

If want to eat the protein chips, combine them with a food that is higher in fat and lower in protein to obtain the right percentages.

These are good stand alone Keto Snacks, links below.

No one wants to eat only this thing for the day and exact percentages are irrelevant anyway.
Cream is nice for many people’s keto and it has different percentages (many people consume it alone, far from other items with significant calories). But I had lard as snack too. Lean meat is great and it hasn’t even remotely that percentages even if we add a little fat while cooking it.

High protein doesn’t kick us out in ketosis (let alone a little protein just because it’s not accompanied with lots of fat), it’s probably quite widely known here but if you don’t know it yet, someone surely can give a link or 20. I don’t care who thinks what and people are hard to convince anyway, I just can’t help to react, bad habit, I know.

Ingredients include maltodextrin, sugar, molasses …

Probably not a large amount, but ingredients I personally would avoid…

I hope you’re not paying $4.25 for a 1oz bag like it shows on Amazon.

(Allie) #5

I would avoid these.

Fine in my book for keto. A nice, packable quick snack when you get caught with nothing but poor food choices and are hungry.

 OUCH on that price… Hey to each their own - if somebody’s got so much money that it doesn’t matter, then maybe it doesn’t matter. But the idea of packaging up this stuff one ounce at a time, and then the consumer opening up that one ounce bag and later throwing it away, just seems crazy to me.

No different than paying $5 for a Starbucks coffee! :open_mouth:

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #9

Which is why I don’t go to Starbuck’s!

(My inner Scotsman cringes at the thought of paying that much for coffee!)

Not defending Starbucks or anything, but a regular large (grande) coffee there is a little under $2.50, which is pretty normal unless you buy gas station coffee. Not sure why people always compare normal cups of coffee to Starbucks’s super high priced stuff which most people aren’t actually getting. My Trenta Iced coffee with Heavy cream there is I think $0.20 higher than a garbage one at Dunkin Donuts.

I buy the Quest one’s which are basically the same thing, they’re fine.

(Jane) #12

My venti flat white is around $5. Plain coffee is cheaper for sure but didn’t fit my comparison.

I only indulge occasionally (nearest Starbucks is a 3-hr round trip for me) or when traveling on expense report. Even more rare these days.

Wow thank you so much. Very helpful suggestions

if you are looking for a nice, crunchy snack…take a couple slices of cheese ( your choice) cut into 4 squares, put in a 350° oven ( on parchment or silicon lined baking sheet) for 15 minutes. Allow to cool…they resemble a Cheezit from the past! :yum:
