Only lost 2 pounds in 2 months

I am 5”3 tall. Started Keto for the 2nd time on Feb 22 weighing 205.8 & as of today I weight 203.8. Just 2 pounds is 2 months😢. Last year in May I started doing keto & didn’t do anything strict. Just ate very low carbs, high fat & protein and I lost 20lbs in the first month. I then started stalling & going back & forth with weight so I started counting macro & continued losing again but slowly. Then in Nov, I went on vacation for a couple of weeks & returned just on time for the holidays then went away again from Jan to ending of Feb. Needless to say, I completely went off track from keto. During all that time I refused to step on the scale because I was afraid of confronting those numbers knowing very well I had put on more weight, so when I returned on Feb 19th I checked my weight and I had gained 10lbs back from the 20 I lost last yr. So on Feb 22nd I start Keto again. At first I wasn’t counting calories/macros but after a month of no success I started counting macros and I am at 70%-80% Fat intake , 25%-28% Protein intake and 1%-5% Carb intake. I’ve also slowly started incorporating exercise in the past week, doing low to high impact 20 to 40 minute sessions. Last week I was in ketosis according to urine strip but this week it doesn’t seem that way. The bottom line is, that I am losing hope. I don’t know what else to do. I have rheumatoid arthritis & was pre diabetic 2 yrs ago and not only do I want to lose weight to look better but most of all to feel better. The fact that I feel like I am doing everything I can to lose weight & its not happening, is starting to affect me emotionally. I am stressed & becoming depressed over it. Has anyone here gone through this and have you been able to break through the plateau? If so, what did you do & what were your results? Please share any suggestions. Thank you.

Ok first if all hello and welcome. It takes time. I went keto Dec 2016 went off in March 2017 to try a more plant based diet. Gained 10 lbs. Sorry lost 24 on keto. Plant based wasn’t for me. Was hungry most of the time. Went back to keto Dec 2017. First month gained 6 lbs so now back in January I’m now 15 lbs over. In January I found the podcasts and binged listened. The saying keep calm and keto on made perfect sense. I learned more about how insulin resistance works and it takes time for the body to heal. So I will tell you. Stop chasing the numbers. Keep calm and keto on. Keto isn’t fast weight loss. Its about healing the body and giving it what it needs to do that.
So here I am. No longer a TD2 insulin dependant diabetic. And yes I lost those 15 lbs and am within 10 lbs of my goal. You can do this. Keep going forward.

NOT that we encourage calorie counting - but how many calories is that? No matter what your percentage is of the carb macro, are you under 20 grams of carbs? Maybe you’re not eating enough (that usually means fat but it could be over-all as well).

I swear by ashwaganda drops and maca powder after one of the trainers at my gym who’s been on keto over a year recommended it to me. The drops I have in a half a glass of warm water once a day and the maca powder I add to my protein shake as and when I have one which I only ever use if going to gym or like today a three hour bike ride. I drink my protein shake with unsweetened almond milk. I eat once a day but only because I genuinely do not feel the need to eat the rest of the day as I am not hungry. I drink gallons of water as well and I have started taking a table spoon of MCT oil once a day if I remember to have it. I can’t take anymore as too much doesn’t agree with me. Dinner tonight was cod fillets, with a cream cheese sauce I made and some green veg. That’s all I’ve had today and again it’s purely because I don’t feel the need to eat. The amount of fat in my diet is most of the time not 80% fat as I do understand that as I’m trying to loose weight that some of that fat needs to come from my own body. I do have one thing I can’t quite quit yet and that is diet coke. It doesn’t stop me loosing weight but it’s not very good for my skin as I have psoriasis. When I’m lazy and can’t be bothered to cook I buy chicken hot dogs (lower in carb) and have it with some butter and humus… as its my only meal if the day I figure I can afford a few grams of carbs from the humus and to be fair that tends to be my lunch when I’m at work. I also have one line of chocolate every so often. Mostly dark or Atkins chocolate. This tends to be during pms week. The drops and powder are adaptogenic and help your body adjust to a new eating routine . Drops also help lower your blood sugar which is the aim of the game on keto. Look them up on Google. Hope what I’m doing can in some way help you. It’s working for me so far

I really don’t think you want to go by percentages: you want to go by grams, especially for carbs and protein. If you are 5’3", you probably need around 50-60g of protein a day. Keep your carbs at 20-30g, and then eat your fat to satiety. Don’t think of percentages because that can still make you go over, especially carbs. Your fat grams may not go that high but if you are eating until satiety, then your own fat stores will make up for the deficit.

I hope this helps,
Edith
