I started keto aug 27. To my shock I lost 4 lbs, then I woke up and weighed on the weekend and I seemingly gained it all back! Is this normal? I have stuck to the keto way of life, nothing else. Making sure I get enough fat, moderate protein, and little carbs-25g/day. Am I missing something? That shot my mood right down the tubes. Am I the only one to experience this?
One Week in, went from joy to frustration....Start of 3rd week, I Love KWOL!
Are you getting ready for that time of the month? Unfortunately, the bloating that comes along with a woman’s cycle isn’t necessarily cured with keto.
Nope, lol, I had everything removed in 2009. But I really did not go off keto, and I did have the keto flu-ugh- as well as I have been running steady between 0.5 (usually in the morning) and in the afternoon I run at a solid 1 until I go to bed, I know I am in Ketosis. I believe my monitor is fairly accurate. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this. I believe this is the way of life for me, but it was just so unnerving that I put that weight right back on, so I am not sure what is going on with my body. Thank you for replying to me!
Have some patience. It can take weeks or months for your body to adjust.
Thank you. That is what I am leaning toward in my thinking. I am an RN and this makes complete sense to me. I initially committed myself to 30 days to see if I felt better and if I would reap the rewards of all around better health. As I researched and researched this, it absolutely makes sense and brought back a lot from nursing school that I learned, in the way the body works down to the cellular level. I just wanted to see if I could expect this back and forth. I am not tied to the scale, thankfully broke that habit YEARS ago. But I am serious about doing this, and I like it a lot, it’s not hard. I just started my journey, so I am glad to hear that this is normal. Thank you!
You can easily fluctuate 4 pounds just from water in any given day.
Don’t fret over daily fluctuations. What’s for larger trends or skip the scale altogether and get a tape measure. Far better indicator of progress anyway.
Thank you.im not a slave to the scale (I used to be) but I was dumbfounded that I was losing weight like that and checked every morning for 4 days because I was in shock:joy:so I really do believe it’s water flux… like my body was at first thinking “whoa, we’re sailing” then after a few days was like “wait, stop, hold up, I’m not giving over that easily”… lol, but I’m especially that you @Anniegirl9 mentioned the tape measure because I need to get one and forgot to pick it up the other day. Thank you!
For real, my reason for doing this is to get the health benefits, which I’m thrilled to say my heartburn is gone. I feel this is a good thing with cutting out sugars, I’m already feeling so much better. So glad to have found this forum
You are very rare, if you became fat adapted in one week. This never happens. Your body is going through a change over to fat burning from years of carb fueling. Also it is a stress on your body that doesn’t help.
You didn’t gain all your weight in a week, you are not going to take it off that quickly either. Just keep on eating low carb, moderate protein, and fat to satiety. You will get switched over. It takes a lot of people months til they consistently use their fat for fuel.
Take some pictures and take them regularly along the way, they will help keep you motivated and they often show true fat loss way before the scales, and as others mentioned measurements too.
Just KCKO.
Thank you. I am sticking to it, I feel better overall and that is huge. I have made the decision to not concern myself over weight, but how good overall mentally and physically I am benefitting. I believe this is what I’ve needed for my life.

I do want to say, in no way do I believe I was fat adapted at that point. I’m not that good I didn’t know really what to expect. I believe that it really was water weight initially and my body was just adjusting and I am relearning what to pay attention to. Now, I am doing really well over all, feel so much better. I love not having sugar in my life. I check my levels a few times a day to see if there are any changes with different foods that I consume. I am running right at 2.0 and 2.5, and that crept up over the weekend, pretty happy about that. I want to thank you for your input! I do appreciate it
