Once Fat Adapted can you have too much fat?

(Peggy Saar) #1

I’m curious once you know you are burning fat and are fat adapted should you cut back on added fats and let your body burn fat already stored?

(Alex) #2

if your goal is to lose weight, yes

(Peggy Saar) #3

Yes weight loss is my main goal. Do you know about how much a person should consume? I’ve lost 2 pant sizes but only 5 pounds in 2 months on faithful keto diet

If you’ve lost pants sizes then you’ve lost fat. Don’t go by the scale, use a tape measure. It’s fat you want to lose, total weight doesn’t really matter.

i wouldn’t say that there’s a set amount, especially post fat adaptation. if you still have a decent amount of body fat to lose, try replacing a chunk of the fat you’re currently consuming with protein and see how you feel. too few calories generally isn’t an issue once you’re fat adapted, provided you’re eating to satiety. stop eating when you’re full, and allow your body fat to make up for any caloric deficit it may be receiving

Thank you! I really appreciate the information greatly!

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #7

I you are eating to satiety, you don’t need to worry about it, because your body will set your appetite at a rate that allows both plate fat and body fat to be metabolized. There is a limit to how much fat you can burn in a day from body fat; the rest of your energy needs to come from your diet. Restrict calories too much, and you risk lowering your basal metabolic rate, making further weight loss more difficult. Give your body enough energy, and it will find ways of using it, even wasting some.

Well that’s encouraging! ! I just love all of you keto smart people! Thanks so much

Yeah, I was hungry yesterday. Ate quite a bit (ribeye and green beans), scale went DOWN this morning, and now I’m HOT. Maybe my metabolism decided to waste some of that extra energy in heat. :\

@Impatientketogramma For me, fat adaptation meant lowering how much dairy and nuts I was eating. I would skip or reduce things like butter, sour cream, cheese and heavy cream and focus on a moderately fatty protein supplemented with vegetables.
