On en off ketose

Hi,
I just started 4 days with keto and im now 2 days in ketose. Is it normal that you go in and out of ketose? In the mornings im always out of ketose and after i ate im back in ketose but my ketose level is only 0.5 or 0.6 and i didnt really lose weight sometimes im even 1 kg more. When i just ate one meal a day without keto i had more weight loss than now… i dont eat too many eggwhites i keep it below 79 gram mostly im around 50-60 gram and my weight it 78 kg. My glucose level in ketose is between 85 and 98 and out ketose its 102

Anyone who had the same issue or is this normal ?

You’ll always go in and out, you typically just don’t notice it. You’re 4 days in, you can’t even remotely start to judge weight loss. If you show ketones, you’re in ketosis, the number doesn’t matter. Sounds like you’re ok.

On the eggwhites, why not eat whole eggs? Either way, when you talk about not eating too many, hopefully you’re not affraid of the protein? If so, don’t be. Last thing you want is to lose a bunch of “weight” which consisits of a lot of muscle. Keep the protein up.

Oh, German? I always found it funny that they call protein “egg whites”

I can’t help with the ketones and you just started, I wouldn’t expect any fat-loss yet. One normally loses some water weight though. But we have the bodyweight fluctuation, it can mask even that sometimes…

You eat pretty low protein from my viewpoint, it may be barely enough, I know likttle about you, only your weight and anyway, it has a personal factor. If you are afraid of eating protein because you fear it goes against ketosis, well, some people should do that, apparently but most of us don’t. I wouldn’t limit my protein that much unless I would be moderately sure it is a must.

And be patient, comparing fat-loss with other methods on day 4…

Thank you, in from the Netherlands i forgot the word protein :joy: i indeed eat less protein because of the fair that they will change it in glucose

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #5

That fear should not stop you from eating the protein you need. It helps replace tissues, grow bones and muscle, and provides nitrogen to help control blood pressure. Excess protein does not automatically get turned into glucose.

How many protein can i eat before it changes in glucose?

Not a concern, and a debunked fear. What eating low protein (will) do, is make you more prone to losing muscle and bone mass over time, as well as not doing your hair, skin or nails any favors.

You might find this calculator useful.

Don’t be too rigid about the numbers, but essentially the basics are keep carbs roughly under 20g (you decide if net or total carbs); eat moderate protein (which depends a lot on your body composition, but the goal is to avoid muscle wastage etc); eat fat to satiety (not a goal, just add as much fat as is needed for you to not feel hungry).

Just be patient, 4 days are just a beginning
