GERD and H.pylori are quite different diseases. Symptoms can be the same, but only a smaller percentage of GERD symptoms is actually h.pylori

#24

Ive suspected having H pylori for a while now, what is the best way to test? My functional med Dr told me there is no good way to know, sometimes it goes undetected and sometimes its false.

#25

It might be a food allergy causing it, Im cutting down on a lot of items, first dairy, now Im suspecting histamine sensitivity, I was eating lots of olives, sardines, bacon, so cutting that out for now…

The article I previously linked to is kind of old, 2010, and speculative. I think @VLC.MD is right the prevailing evidence, and especially recent evidence, is that while there are relationships between GERD and H. pylori it is mostly negative in that H. pylori infections appear to actually reduce the risk and severity of GERD, probably because it reduces stomach acid, although there are a small number of cases where it may make it worse. In the other direction, treating GERD with stomach acid antagonists might increase the risk of developing a H. pylori infection. Anyway, if you also have gastritis or stomach ulcers then H. pylori could be a factor but otherwise probably not.

H.Pylori serology (blood test) is usually easiest, cheapest. (to rule in disease).
Once treated, Urea Breath Test, helps rule out the disease (more expensive).

@VLC.MD Ill need to see my Dr then to get this done. Thanks!

Liz, just letting you know my appetite is back  oh well, some things are too good to be true.

(Liz ) #30

Haha! I feel the same way about my appetite normalizing

One meal a day works very well for me - and has for several decades, whether or not I was eating carbohydrates. Couple cups of coffee in the morning, no lunch, and a big supper, used to frequently have a lot of alcohol before it. Never any problems.

#32

That’s great to hear. I know the public consensus is do what works for your body, and I’m trying to figure that out by many trials and errors and n=1 experiments. Thanks for your input! @OldDoug

@peresianketo - you mentioned insulin sensitivity. Eating fewer meals per day helps, there. Less meals = less times your insulin level goes up in response to food, making for an overall lower average insulin level.
