OMAD for begginers

(chad) #1

so today was my first time in trying omad. ive been doing keto for about 2 weeks. I have felt my hunger start to go away so I figured id try it. this morning I drank a coffee with 2 packs Splenda and some cream. after that I just waited for dinner. for lunch I went to the gym and jogged burning 700 calories. my question is how much should I be trying to eat for just 1 meal. I ate some fried salmon patties with some creamy cheese butter riced cauliflower. it total about 7-8 net carbs 75g fat and 82 protein about 1100 calories

any suggestions or ideas? is this good, or do I need less? more?

I can tell ya I started doing OMAD in week one. But this was because I was doing this before Keto, so I didn’t have any issues with it. But that being said, I’ve been trying to just keep it changing, so your body doesn’t get used to any type of schedule. … Some days I throw in 2 meals, and of course, some days I just fast. Usually 3 days, but just finished a 5 day last week.

The main thing is to listen to what your body wants. I rarely take anything for lunch, but usually keep some stuff in my fridge in my office. Pickles, Pepperoni, cheese, etc. … This way if I do happen to get hungry, I will simply eat something. Even if I have to go pick up a burger and just remove the bun. (I’ve also been doing that for many years, not being big on bread) … Just give things a try, but make sure to listen & it should work out fine.

Oh, and I do what they call ā€˜Lazy Keto’ I simply keep net-carbs at/under 15g, and try to not over-eat protein. I just let the rest sort itself out. … As suggested to me by others, this is fine and if it works, go with it. But if sometime down the road I stall and stop loosing weight, I might start tracking to make sure it’s not just me making mistakes.

@Bruno77, I agree with @Digital_Dave, it’s about your body and what works for you. I’m not going to tell you what to do, but I’ll tell you what I do, and maybe give you some ideas.

I actually started OMAD before I started keto, about a week before. We experimented eating one meal just to see how it would go. Surprisingly well, and I wasn’t worried after we started eating keto. So, technically I’ve been doing OMAD the whole time I’ve been eating keto. It’s kinda funny, because now it’s hard for me to separate the two in my mind; where I feel like I’m not being keto if I have more than one meal. I would occasionally fast for a day or two, but now I’m at a point where I don’t feel quite right, if I don’t have at least one meal a day.

So, I started by skipping breakfast and working all day, finally to eat in the evening. I think this worked because I had so much weight to lose, but as I got closer to my target weight, I stalled. Occasionally I’ll plan to go to lunch with my wife, and I noticed my weight was a little better the next morning, after skipping supper. Since I usually work all day I decided to start eating breakfast again.

I’ll eat about four or five eggs, and some sausage or bacon. That big of a breakfast usually gets me by if I drink plenty of liquids. If I don’t drink enough water, I start to feel hungry, but for me, I just need more hydration.

I will say I don’t shy away from eating sunflower seeds (the kind you have to shell). I eat them every night. They are relatively low carb, and keep my mouth busy, if you will, so I don’t feel like I need to be eating something else.

With that said, I will occasionally come home after work and eat again. Maybe some more eggs, or some sardines and pickles and cheese, to keep it simple. I had to resist the feeling of guilt because I’m not strictly sticking to OMAD, but I remind myself ā€œI’m eating healthier now than I’ve ever eaten in my life!ā€ No need to feel guilty. It’s just all in my head. Point being, listen to your body and do what feels right.

I don’t worry about calories, I just eat until I’m full, and make sure whatever I’m eating is on the ā€œgreen listā€. shorter.one/green You might call me ā€œeven lazier ketoā€.

Hope this might be helpful, and good luck!
