OMAD cal question

(Alex) #1

hey everyone! so, I would like to transition to a one meal a day eating plan in the near future. my question is, if my daily calories are super low due to only eating one meal a day, is that okay / safe? i’d ideally like to only hit my protein macro and keep fat to a minimum for the OMAD meals, since i am fat adapted and have body fat i’m still trying to lose. for example, if my OMAD was 16oz of steak, cooked in butter and olive oil, and the macros came out to 50g fat, 100g protein, and 900 calories, would this be acceptable as a OMAD option? is it safe to consume that few calories / that little fat, as long as i’m getting enough protein, since i have a good amount of body fat? i’m an active 25 year old male, roughly 6 foot / 190 lbs, for what it’s worth. currently, i’m consuming 3 meals a day that generally add up to between 1700 and 1900 calories. thanks for any and all responses

never mind. did more research and i think i found out everything i need to know about OMAD. for some reason i can’t delete this post

What did you find out?

that i’d be better off sticking to my current caloric consumption / macros if i do decide to do OMAD versus cutting fat / calories. ultimately cutting cals would lead to a lower metabolism rate. i’m pretty content with the success i’ve had with keto thus far / the current rate i’ve been losing weight at, so why try to fix what ain’t broken

Alex at 6 foot / 190 lbs you are already restricting calories at 1700 and 1900 and risk slowing your metabolism with Keto and IF/OMAD it’s not necessary to restrict calories to be a fat burning machine. If you really want to kick it into overdrive try ADF/OMAD (42-44 hour fast 4-6 hour eating window 2500 cals) and will not lower your metabolism.

thanks! i’ve been intermittent fasting 16/8 since i started keto which was 50 days ago. i was around 215lbs when i started. and i actually just ended my first fast ever 2 days ago, which lasted 72 hours. and i also just re-checked my macros today and realized that i probably haven’t been consuming nearly enough protein. i’ve only been getting 80-90g a day when i believe i should have been getting 120-140g a day all along. i do believe i’m fat-adapted, but my energy hasn’t been what i’ve been hoping during my workouts. i do light jogging daily and do light weight-lifting 4 days a week. i’m hoping the increase in protein will help this. and regarding calories, the calculator i used recommended 1800-2000 cals a day if i want to continue to lose weight at a safe but quick pace, which i do. once i shed a bit more off, i am planning on raising my daily calories to somewhere in the 2200-2400 range, and maybe up from there!

maybe i will aim for 1900-2200 calories and adjust from there to not restrict myself too much. as long as the weight keeps coming off and i keep feeling good, i’m content!

You and I are basically the same height/weight. I figured I could shave off another 5 lbs. It goes very slow no matter what you do the closer to goal weight you get.

Yep, have a big meal. Fung will tell you we’re designed to feast and fast. If you go low calorie and still are hungry after your meal, it’ll backfire.
