"Old newbie" back/progress, changes, med info

(Debra J griffith) #1

Hi all! I seemed to have a problem with my old account, so I created a new one and am back.
I was “keto”, or so I thought, until I started regularly checking my ketones. Most times, it didn’t even register!

So, since I’ve detested veggies since I was 4, I went carnivore. And low and behold, my ketones rose dramatically, and settled at around 1.0ish.
But I was then stuck at 145-150lbs.
So, since I take several meds for pain, thyroid etc, I reviewed each one, and found the culprit: promethazine, my antinausea med.
It is an H1 antihistamine, which is actually used off label to help people GAIN weight! Yikes! So I dropped it, and am steadily losing 2 lbs a week. At 141 Monday.
I thought I had my “fat” jeans on because they were loose: they were my size 8’s!!

Welcome back, Debra and congrats on your new losses and getting back on track with Keto =).

Welcome back! Congratulations on figuring things out.

Gosh, you never know what will affect weight. Good that you found out. Welcome back and glad that carnivore is working for you.

(Rebecca ) #5

You never know what prescriptions will do to you! I hope carnivore goes well for you. What is your basic day for food now?

Thanks everyone! Glad to be a member again instead of lurking!
My carnivore eating is pretty simple: mostly either burgers (with cheese and bacon- yes, I eat eggs and a little dairy) or chicken/fish dishes.
I know one thing: on keto, I was ALWAYS hungry, which didn’t seem right. Now I sometimes have to force myself to eat.

That is awesome that you have found what works for you Debra =).

(Edith) #8

I find I am less hungry leaning more towards carnivore than pure keto.

Edith

Same for me. Still experimenting. Maybe will experiment forever.

It baffles my mind that taking out some simple foods (olives, green beans for example) in even small amounts and adding a little more beef (a few oz) improves satiety. But it does.
