Old Glucose Monitor and strips

(Crippie) #1

So I I am NOT a diabetic and do not need a glucose monitor for any medical reasons, but I wanted one to just check my glucose from time to time and to check my sensitivity to sweeteners and other foods.

Well when I mentioned this my mom told me she had my grandmas old monitor that my mom got when she passed away last year. The monitor is actually fairly new and works great. However, all 200 test strips that my mom also had expired a while ago. I bought a pack of fresh strips to test at my local pharmacy, but they were not cheap and I am already low. I have checked my glucose with the new strips, and usually follow with the old strips to see how close they are and it seems to be right on.

Do you think it is Ok to continue to use the expired strips once I run out of the new ones I bought? I would like to save that money if I could.

If they give you comparable results to the fresh ones, I don’t see why you shouldn’t use them.

Agree! Use the old ones up first.

If their working their working. Test a coupe vs the new ones and see.

I’m sure they are fine.
periodically test a new one and an old one back to back.
likely will give virtually the same numbers.
