I am eating keto. The rest of my family is not. My healthy 23-year-old daughter, not in ketosis and not aspiring to be, is wondering if she will be harming herself by eating some of my high fat foods. Example: should she, or should she not, drink bullet proof coffee if she is not fat adapted?
Ok to eat keto if not aiming for ketosis?
I have a friend that does bullet proof coffees and is not keto. She runs marathons and is on the very lean side. I think it depends on many factors such as why is she wanting to do it, what is her activity level, what is her metabolic health like, how often and how much does she want to add in extra fat?
My DD12 has adopted some of my Keto ways of eating and I consider them to be very healthy. She actually prefers the unwich at Jimmy John’s and a salad at Subway vs. the sandwich. She also enjoys my “Pizza Topping” that I make, which is just the toppings cooking in a saute pan with cheese melted on top and she no longer requests taco shells for taco night. She just eats it as a taco salad, just the way I do.
Dropping carbs is always going to be a healthy option, but suddenly loading up on all the fat without dropping carbs may not be such a good idea.
Wouldn’t worry about it unless it’s a very regular thing OR if she’s a legit carboholic and constantly eating your foods. On the Bulletproof coffee’s the reason they got to the insanely popular status that they did was NOT because of us! It was mainly “normal” and Paleo people. A TBSP of butter isn’t hurting anybody and the MCT’s won’t store as fat. No worries there. It will still fill her up and maybe make a little less room for carbage.
High carbs and high fat are not a healthy mix.
As long as she just uses a BPC for breakfasts and does not eat high fat the rest of the day, she should be ok.
