I’ve been looking for different syrups to make keto pancakes. So I found this syrup
at Walmart and I bought it because I want to try itOh my gosh look at what I found keto syrup at Walmart
That’s exciting! And is probably cheaper than Lakanto syrup with similar recipe. How I love maple-y syrup on a pancake-y thing for special breakfast.
I’m about to get up and make me some keto pancakes and use the syrup. It was a little pricey not going to lie like a little under $7 but I really wanted to try it
Good find, though it appears that my Walmart doesn’t appear to carry it. FWIW, I’ve been using the Sugar Free Mrs Butterworth’s which is quite a bit cheaper but looking closer at the ingredient, seems like it still has trace amounts of corn syrup. I saw the sugar alcohols matching up with the carb count so I didn’t stress it too much. Maybe I should? Tastes good though.
Oh! In case you need a good waffle/pancake recipe, I’ve been a fan of this one http://www.tryketowith.me/2015/08/01/the-only-keto-pancakewaffle-recipe-i-need/
No sugar, just corn syrup. Seriously, avoid this brand, you’re closer to keto by using actual maple sugar…
:sadlol: that’s what I was afraid of. I don’t do waffles that often so thought it was fine but maybe I need to keep looking. The way I justified it is “you’re literally trying to substitute sugar water” and figured I’d have to give a little.
How was the syrup Karla? Thank you for any info you can share I like the ingredient list, I have tried pure liquid monk fruit and personally thought it had a maple-like flavor to it, was thinking it would make a great syrup!
@bressain of the two Birch Benders Magic Syrup has deceptive labeling
Birch Benders Magic Syrup 2 Tbsp serving shows 0 calories yet has 1 gram of carbs (4 calories)
Sugar Free Mrs Butterworth’s 1/4 cup (4 Tbsp) all the calories are from the Sorbitol (sugar alcohol 2.6 calories x 8 = 20.8) and the other ingredients including the corn syrup is less than 2 percent.
For the same size serving 1/4 cup (4 Tbsp) you get 2 net carbs (Birch Benders Magic Syrup) versus 8 sugar alcohols (Mrs Butterworth’s)
So the big questions are can you trust ’ Birch Benders Magic Syrup ’ and how do you respond to Sugar Alcohols ?
“According to federal regulations, the terms ‘calorie free,’ ‘free of calories,’ ‘no calories,’ ‘zero calories,’ ‘without calories,’ ‘trivial source of calories,’ ‘negligible source of calories,’ or ‘dietarily insignificant source of calories’ may be used on the label or in the labeling of foods, provided that food contains less than 5 calories per reference amount customarily consumed and per labeled serving,” the spokeswoman said.
I enjoy sharing my thoughts and experiments if you get something out of it ok if not that’s ok too
Please remember YMMV

Oh my gosh the syrup was so great the only problem is it is so expensive so I have literally kept it in my room but I prefer my syrup cold on my pancakes but the only thing is my family will eat it and it is $7 a bottle
Oh snap, I didn’t notice that part. I honestly haven’t tested my reaction to sugar alcohols and to be honest, I’m almost afraid to know . The rest of my family doesn’t eat keto so I bought this for them to use as well since in the end it’s probably better than standard syrup (less sticky too).
Thanks for the write-up! Very informative.
Karla, the only thing I can surmise, is that this is one of those things that is genetically factored… Because I got a bottle of this stuff and it was so horrible, I could hardly get the taste out of my mouth !
Threw it straight in the trash and counted my losses !
I should have known, if it wasn’t a Sucralose product, forget it !
Now this one isn’t too bad. They go a little heavier than I think they need to on the thickening agent, but at least it’s Sucralose, so it taste pretty good…
Ya’ know what sucks ? I used to get big, regular syrup sized bottles of SF Maple Farms syrup, and it was only about $3 ! Then, one day, they quietly switched away from Sucralose
Now it sucks
I tried the Walden and they sell it at Walmart but it was gross to me. I prefer Mrs Butterworth sugar-free over Waldens even though I know it was better for me health-wise
The thing about Mrs Butterworth’s and several other SF syrups is that they use a bunch of sugar alcohols, which have a lot of carb cals, and I never know exactly how many of those actually count ?
This food-like substance appears to be processed fake food. It’s sugar (maple? maybe and monkfruit) gum. Nobody yet has questioned the (insignificant?) sugar flavouring (to make it taste like maple syrup).
They’ve just whacked “keto-friendly” and “paleo-friendly” labelling on there to induce purchases. It’s marketing, it’s selling stuff, that’s the primary aim. It aint about a healthy way of eating. It is evidence of the popularity and the demise of the ketogenic diet in the main stream. You are holding “Peak Keto” in your hand and dripping it on the pancake.
When I see discussions like this there seems to be a superficial need to satisfy cravings with ‘keto’ substitutes. It may as well be labelled “gluten-free”. This company is just hopping on the band wagon.
I can understand the need for these products for newbies who are testing the idea but can’t let go of old habits. And for ketonians who have hit their goals and want to relive or test something from their sweet carbohydrate memories. The flood of new investigators probably the target market and largest market.
I can understand the anti-restrictive psychology behind satisfying cravings for food associated behaviours (memories of pancakes and maple syrup breakfasts with family etc), but this product seems nutritionally sinister.
The Alaskan salmon find, on the other hand (in the other thread), is awesome.
Thanks for sharing your discoveries. I would love to see what people’s n=1 blood glucose and ketones do after a meal of keto pancakes and syrup. Are there any threads?
You should really read the ingredients. I’m not saying that to be facetious but I don’t taste Maple even though it’s states Maple it does taste like a sugar-free syrup. Nothing’s going to be perfect when you’re trying to eat syrup so you have to take that into consideration and just eat it in moderation and not daily. I’m just throwing this out there as an option for people who are craving pancakes and that can cause them to go off keto because they’re constantly thinking about it. Versus me I can eat this occasionally and not have it be a problem when I’m craving regular non keto Foods. Feel Me? We see the connection between
I am not sure about their A1C levels but let me give you a testimony. I occasionally eat these type of foods to help me stay on the keto diet versus avoiding them and feeling deprived and never engaging in these type of foods because overall this is a lifestyle change and not a diet so this is how I’m going to be eating for the rest of my entire life. Put that into perspective when you are talking to people about these things to tell someone that they will never be able to have a pancake because of certain ingredients are not 1000% keto is unrealistic in my opinion and maybe you can do that but I cannot. And I don’t say this to be rude but I’m giving you my perspective on it.
What I can tell you as far as how I am eating I have lost 57 pounds within a year-and-a-half. Obviously something I am doing is right and I feel better and I have less brain fog. I don’t know maybe you should think about that in my opinion
