Off the sauce

alcohol

Hi all, 56 days in here.

One of my favorite activities, sadly, is getting off of work and pouring that glass of red wine. Sipping that wine while I cook dinner. Finishing the glass about the end of the cooking and thats that. On the weekends this would go to 2 a night. I have kept this activity for most of my time in keto. I’ve just recently decided to give it up for a while to see if it makes any difference. While I know its still early for me, my NSVs have gone to none. Even the lovely brain goodness has gone away. My most nights wine stayed within my carb limit of 20 and i have been producing ketones since almost day 1 so I have never been kicked because of the wine. With that said, I’m hoping this change up will at the very least, bring about some other NSVs.

I know, I know…KCKO. I’m definitely doing that. Easier some days than others. Alas, I am pretty sure I am grieving that lovely red tonight.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks for posting!
It’s a big step!

At some point, you’ll be able to have some again, especially because as you become more fat adapted, your body will switch back & forth from metabolizing fat, to carbs/alcohol, to fat with ease. You’re just making that transition a lot easier for now.

Oh yes, I hear you- I have been having gin and soda every night, maybe more on the weekends (ok, no maybe about it! ) and been on a stall for about three weeks. I am now two days ‘sober’, and my clear headedness is coming back, so I think I have found the culprit. Damn it!

I’m reluctantly contemplating reducing down the alcohol to two nights a week (my husband works in the liquor industry, so complete abstinence may lead to divorce). I will be really keen to follow your progress!

From your fingers to God’s ears… Lol. Sugar was easy for me… Wine… Omg no!

I hear ya. I’m 3 days into this sober life… And dammit, I do feel a difference. Le sigh. Eventually when I decide to add it back, it will probably be only weekends or special occasions.

Alcohol suppresses the hunger hormones so you do run the risk of eating when you should not be. I have found it stalls my progress and then I feel guilty so have moved drinking to a very low priority, but have not stopped completely

CONGRATS, it’s good to have control over such a thing…

That being said I hope you’re not averse to having a glass “sometimes” and “occasionally” :grinning:

I’ve actually never had any issue eating too much because of alcohol thankfully but can understand why that might happen.

Haha! Oh, I am not adverse. My birthday is around the corner and I will certainly have some wine. I’m just cutting it out on the daily to see if helps with my journey.
