Nothing like that Wooosh weight drop

(Steve ricci ) #1

They are not often and I’ve been loosing weight steadily (1.0 lb a week or so) but yesturday I dropped 3 lb during the day. No change in eating and then over night another 2 lb. I love it. I wish this happened more often. I’m not sure why but I also started upping mag and potas. Is it coincidence or just that illusive Woosh that happens. Anyone else go through this, any triggers that you figured out?

Had one and only one whoosh

I have had whooshes. Unfortunately in both directions. At least now, Keto, down whooshes are winning

This seems to happen for me to some degree every couple of weeks…

The wooosh has my weight loss journey looking like a Roller Coaster ride (this is approximatly one month of joy ride)

Mine has been pretty linear, it would drive me crazy otherwise

chart-2
My Keto Journey since Halloween. Red dots are fasting days. The straight lines are travel days when I dont get weights.
The whipsaw period is my N=1 attempt to fast and FEAST heavily to rebuild metabolism. I think it may have worked My pant size did shrink 6" during that time.

Now relaunching with an EF to jumpstart the weight loss. Then will resume standard Keto.

Ok gals. Post a similar chart.:joy::grin::joy:

Congrats, though.

Not sure I did this right but here’s about a month of scale readings on the graph. Definitely wavy!

(Karen) #10

Sure and steady! So 10 lbs a month? Mine’s much slower. Congrats!

Weight loss is non linear. That’s all it comes down to.

(Steve ricci ) #12

I check every day but only log once a week. It fluctuates too much and the fluctuation means nothing. I think its more accurate and less stressful

I was a trader on Wall Street for 32 yrs. I lived noisy data. So i am inured to a little noise in my weight chart. I am lucky to be able to have 32 yrs of experience looking past the immediate noise to the bigger picture.
That said, I still calculate and plot my monthly quarterly and Keto rate of weight loss, and look at those numbers daily :grinning:

I’m so ready for that Woody i hear about!

I like the theory that we burn fat in ketosis but the fat cells don’t necessarily like to be depleted (since they are not destroyed, only emptied) and so they refill with water. Almost by definition, a whoosh can’t really be anything but water when it actually happens (bodies don’t burn up 10,000kcal+ of fat randomly in a day).

The challenge is to find out what releases that water and gives you the whoosh. Of course some folks don’t seem to get that and just have steady declines which may be related to their level of insulin sensitivity but if you are prone to whoosh, what sets it off?

For me, it currently seems to be an EF after a while of building up fat burning. Monthly Zornfasts seem to work for this schedule. Others seem to be triggered by a one meal/one day carb up? Go figure… :exploding_head:

Never thought about it like that. I also knew weight does not get put on that fast either. It definately makes perfect sence though.

:slightly_smiling_face: Okay, Crystal, is this an ‘auto-correct’ thing?

Rob, this is surely an ill-studied deal. About fat cells really being “emptied;” rather I picture them contracting, but I really don’t know, there. Our stored fat is mostly triglycerides, as I understand things. Triglycerides are glycerol with fatty acids attached. If it was just glycerol, then I’d readily see the attraction for water - 3 water molecules will join with glycerol via hydrogen bonding, but as fat leaves our fat cells, the remaining fat is still all or almost all triglycerides where there are no open bonds that would “want” water.

If water goes into our fat cells, I would think that there’s an electrolytic balance that would need to be maintained, and thus either way - the “whoose” in or out is a surprising thing to me. Eh, more questions than answers…

Here’s one article:
