Not ready for CKD but feel I need a bit more

#1

I’ve just recently got back on keto…after going back to carbs for a week kidding myself it’ll be fine if I just eat sensibly, but ultimately feeling much worse without being in ketosis!

The thing is I’m pretty sure I suffered a bit on gym days, particularly weight training so I want to add an easy bit of glycogen before and after my workouts. I was thinking half a bottle of chocolate yazoo before and after, a bottle being 400ml.

I have a feeling some would snarl at my idea but would like to find out none the less!

I love keto but I know it requires some tweeking!

No objection to TKD, but Yazoo might not be ideal. Try honey or a cheap and easy source of pure dextrose. In the States we have a candy called smarties that’s pure dextrose, and some folks it for workouts. Dextrose is basically just glucose bound to water, and you can burn through much faster.

I tried it last week. Usually I lift weights 84hrs fasted. I wondered if I was underperforming. I tried 2 rolls of Smarties prior to my workout. No change that I could tell.

@Dread1840 has reported some benefits from his honey experience though, and his workouts are much more intense and higher volume than mine.

I’d research the Yazoo a bit more. In the US we have some super long shelf life chocolate milk products. They have been pasteurized so much that they are completely biologically dead and the fats have been processed to the point of being unhealthy.

If this is the case with Yazoo, you would be MUCH better off finding a whole food source for your carbs (baked sweet potato, boiled rice etc.).

Thanks for the reply guys. I’ll try the honey and see how that goes. It would be interesting to find out if what I try truly does take me out of ketosis or not with a blood test monitor, I’ll have to research them and try to find a good value to performance model.
