Not losing weight

(Dany Bolduc) #24

I don’t think anyone here believes you are causing harm to you baby.
I think you are doing great and you should not interpret anything said here thus far as a criticism.
(I don’t think you did, but I want to make sure your mind is at ease on that)

Your plan to keep these carbs under 20gr and increase your fat a bit is awesome.

As to your weight control, we don’t have your complete history with food intake over the years.
If you’ve maintained the desired weight through a calorie in calorie out method for some years, it’s entirely possible that your metabolism has slowed down over time.

Eating these 500 calories more will not only support BF, but (if you are with a slowed metabolism) will improved your metabolism and should not affect your weight negatively.
If anything, it might be just what you need to start loosing weight in a few month’s time.

Your metabolism does not adjust overnight. It slowly changes over time.
Stay in caloric deficit long enough and it will eventually adjust to that level of energy expenditure.
Stay in caloric surplus long enough and the same will happen in the other direction.

You will feel better (skin look better, hair grows stronger, more energy, regulate temperature better, better immune system) by burning more energy without having to increase activity level…. and regulating your weight will also be easier.

You are awesome thank you! I really appreciate your advice and elaborate inputs. I have learnt so much just by this post. I did begin increasing my calories by adding a meal yesterday, it was small because I was not hungry but I could eat, I feel more energetic and slept well last night, something I have been struggling with lately. I also adjusted MFP to accomodate the extra calories.

my history with food is not good, yoyo dieting. I have struggled with my weight ever since I became a mom 6 years ago. Where I moved from 65kg to 90+ within the space of my pregnancy. I have not been able to conquer it ever since. I have also been active, i still play netball every Tuesday, and I try do strength training at least twice in a week. I enjoy it and am not necessarily doing it for weight loss purposes. I do believe in healing my body and putting muscles (especially core) back to where they are supposed to be.

This is why I am soooo happy you guys have reminded me on the importance of clean and proper eating. And allowing my body to heal itself internally and enjoying the effects instead of chasing numbers on a scale. It is a big and necessary mindshift for me. so THANK YOU!

No shit? If so, I need to do some reading about this, then switch to another nut butter for my keto treats!!

Hi! I add maybe 500 calories extra and drink tons of water. But, I’m starting to scale back a lot because my baby is older now and only nursing 3-4 times a day (& nursing for shorter and shorter periods of time). I feel like keto has helped me learn how to listen to my body after years of not listening, (and that feels like another huge non scale victory for me). Keep me posted…

Please share your findings. Giving up peanuts when I started (a year ago March) was one of my more sad moments… I love peanuts. But peanuts kept coming up on the “avoid” lists… so out they went. I’ve got a jar of almond butter in the fridge for when it’s time for fat bombs that resemble peanut butter cups.

PB is fine unless it doesn’t suit you - some people do have digestive issues with it - or you cannot control yourself around it! I have a tendency towards the latter!

That Oppo ice cream is yummy - I tried it while I was in the UK a couple of weeks back. I wouldn’t have it often though as it will likely tip your carbs to the high end. I tell you what is yum - small scoop ice cream, big scoop clotted cream and the cream is much better carb wise.

Lots of great advice already. All I would say is focus on the carbs - drill them right down. But don’t be afraid to eat. Don’t worry about calories. get your carbs low, keep your protein moderate (and fatty) and don’t deprive yourself. Congrats on the baby and enjoy that bonding time. xxx

I guess like anything, some people are adversely affected by peanuts, some not. You’d have to determine if peanuts affect you or not. For me, I don’t even know. I just had heard and read they can be inflammatory so I just stopped eating peanut butter, which I didn’t eat much of anyway, and now use almond butter when I want a nut butter. N=1

I fall under “cannot control myself” :grinning::grinning::grinning::grinning:

Thank you! I’ll have a look out for that ice cream. I did very well today and I was so proud. managed to eat A LOT of yummy food, even tried out a new recipie. And my Macros looked like this:

Carbs 16g (4%)
Fat 119g (71%)
Protein 94g (25%)

This is huge progress! from 26-39g of carbs.

Thank you for all your advice! One day at a time and today I think I won. Macros are becoming less complicated and I tried macadamian nuts and enjoyed them in moderation of course! Thank you Ketofam

I hope to get there too! I added 500 calories too and have no regrets so far (itsday one😁) but I was not hungry and my breasts felt fuller. I think I have been compromising my supply! We live to learn. Thanks for the encouraging message will definitely keep you posted here!

I struggled terribly with milk supply and was actually scared to resume keto post partum because of my low supply. Much to my great pleasure, my supply increased after adapting again.

those early months of breast feeding can be so hard- but it gets easier every day.

My milk supply has been great since increasing my calories and taking everyone’s advice here. After today I’m putting away the scale too! because the day I increased my fats (and calories) my scale moved! This week alone I have lost 1.5 kg. My energy level is amazing (even my husband has noticed cause I used to ALWAYS be tired), my skin is amazing and glowing!

Just an update. I’m happy, full of all the juicy foods. And have finaly figured out Macros.

Thank you to each and everyone who commented and supported. I give you so much credit for my journey.

I’m so excited for you!!! What a lovely journey this is, isn’t it? It’s incredible how we start to “hear” our body and then respond to its needs and then we feel better! Congratulations!

Thank you so much
