Not losing weight on keto

(Ankita Sharma) #1

Hi Guys,

I have done Keto 3/4 times in the past for less than 15 days, since I could never keep up… but still managed to lose good amount of weight in those 15 days… I have again started keto and my starting date was 12th March… I am on ketosis since 2 weeks now… and about to complete a month of keto… but I have lost only 1 kg… apart from that my stomach seems bloated … earlier my lovehandles used to slim down on keto… but now my whole stomach is bloated. Funny thing is… this is happening on ketosis. Please suggest me what to do? I am losing hope and this is not good because I will end up discontinuing it. :frowning:

What are you eating? Sounds like you may be eating something that is causing inflammation. Can you list a couple days of what you have been eating daily?

May be your constant in and out of diets has screwed your metabolism, and this time it will take longer!

Hey!

I start my day with Lemon squeezed in warm water

Black coffee with 2 teaspoons of fresh cream

For breakfast I have a fixed meal - eggs + 4 tiny chicken sausages (with cheese)

Lunch - Chicken salami and Chicken roasted breast with cheese (sometimes cauliflower rice cooked in butter with tomatoes and onions)

Evening - 5 pieces of almonds

Dinner - cauliflower rice or chicken breast cooked in olive oil wity butter and red chilli (very less)

I had the same diet the last time I did keto and was still losing weight.

But stomach is bloated af this time :slightly_frowning_face:

Umm… shit. That could be one reason! :frowning:

Are you tracking your macro percentages? That generally seems like a whole lot of protein, and a LOT of chicken. I know you said you were doing this meal plan before, but there are a lot of things that can cause different reactions. Metabolism, as was mentioned above, hormones (including cortisol- the “stress” hormone), etc.

Are you taking any supplements? Fiber?

Sometimes people don’t mention they’re taking fiber supplements and complain of bloating. It could either be from constipation or from adding tons of fiber.

You could use more fat, for sure. Can you replace chicken with beef or pork? Chicken is like meat’s version of a salad, especially the breast meat. There’s just not that much nutrition in it.

I have started taking multivitamins from this month (not related with keto… earlier I used to be on birth control pills… just discontinued them and have started taking follic acid pills). I hope nothing is related with this.

Even if I am eating a lot of protein… can I still be in ketosis? I think i will increase fat intake + salt intake.

The funny thing is… I am on ketosis for more than 2 weeks now… and still nothing is happening… this has never happened before

Nah, nothing. I think I should increase my fat intake + salt intake… that might help.

Lately, I have been taking follic acid pills cos I just discontinued birth control pills… I hope it is not connected with this. :slightly_frowning_face::sweat:

Oh!! Yes, I need to increase my fat intake for sure. Will switch to pork/bacon as well. Let’s see if it does the trick. Thanks a lot

This happened to me. I lost 9kg my first month and then stopped doing keto for a month and then started again. I never lost that much in a month again. But, keto is not a yo yo diet. Stay with it because it makes you healthy and you need to change your lifestyle, not because you just want to lose a few kilos and go back to eating carbs.

Upping the fat intake like you said should help. Besides all that, just stay with it and trust the process. If the scale is making you obsess, put it away for a while and just focus on being keto. Good luck!

I’ve spent most of my career working with pregnant moms and newborns (not saying you’re necessarily pregnant or trying to conceive, just the common “off of BC, starting folic acid” regimen in those situations), and have heard many complain about the effect of folic acid on their digestive system, including bloating. I wish I knew what to tell you; I wish I had an easy answer.

I have heard that bloating while on folic acid can happen because of low stomach acid. I have NO idea about the science or evidence for this, but it might be a rabbit hole to peek into and investigate?

High amounts of protein, from what I understand, can knock a body out of ketosis.

My current hypothesis about the lack of weight loss is this: first time around, keto worked because you were essentially following a CICO diet, which can work in the short run, without curing the problem. So when one goes off of it, all of those pounds come right back because their metabolic rate has been reduced. This time on keto, your metabolism may be so low that your body isn’t primed to lose weight. It doesn’t know what to do and is worried it is going to starve again, so it might be clinging to those pounds.

I think you might find that if you increase your fat content a lot, reduce that protein, and consider upping your calories, you can help reassure your body that you aren’t torturing it and train it to run on fat at the same time

Yes
Change up the protein sources and amounts

The Chicken sausages , chicken roasted breast, chicken breast cooked…

You get fattier meats, ur food macro pie chart for the “ fat “ portion will drastically increase!

This reminds me of digging through the tub of chicken at KFC or awesome Albertsons fried chicken ( not the best KETO oils even for today ).
It’s been awhile :weary:
Always wanted the chicken Breast portions
Or at picnics…awe the past carby days

Now, no more chicken
Just more bacon in butter please :joy::smile:

Sorry for a late reply! Thank you so much. You have explained it amazingly.

Alright, will do so. Sorry for the late reply!

Thank you so much. Also - KFC is delicious no doubt, but I avoid eating out during keto… mainly because of the oil they use… its is surely unhealthy.
