I started Keto or low carb in November on and off December and strict Keto since December 26. I now have no hunger. I do not want to eat. I have had 700 calories in two days. Any recommendations? Don’t tell me to eat more. Trying to understand why it is happeneing and if others have experienced this. What helps?
Not hungry? Supplements?
As long as you do eat when you’re hungry, don’t worry about it, unless you see signs of metabolic slowdown (feeling cold, hair loss, irregular period, slowed fingernail growth, that sort of thing), in which case eating more is the correct response.
The body is highly adaptable, and it usually knows what’s best. While it’s not a good idea to restrict calories on purpose, doing it by using hunger and satiety as guides is fine.
In the early stages of fat adaption it’s not at all unusual to lose your appetite. It generally comes back but often at a lower level than when eating the standard american diet.
When this happened to me in the beginning I was worried too but stayed hydrated, made sure I was getting my electrolytes (mainly salt) by drinking chicken broth and even made some keto type sweets (fat bombs) to help increase my appetite.
I also had a stretch from week 4 to week 8 where I was eating 1000 calories per day (@190 pound male) and I just wasn’t hungry. I used the opportunity to do OMAD and even a few 2-3 day fasts and it was pretty easy. The weight was coming off quickly and I felt great, but still I was thinking, this isn’t much food I am eating. Is it a problem? Eventually my hunger hormones said “wait a sec, we can’t keep going like this” and my hunger started increasing and so I started eating more (with good results on the scale, just not quite as good).
To echo what @PaulL said, just eat when you are hungry and don’t worry. Your body will definitely tell you if it’s not happy with the status quo.
