I haven’t done it in a while, so I don’t really remember. When I use the instant pot for other things, you can smell the food, but it’s not as intense. At least it won’t last as long as when cooking for hours and hours where more steam is released during the cooking than with the pressure cooker. I would recommend allowing the pressure to go all the way down on its own rather than quick releasing because quick release expels the steam and the odor. Letting it go down naturally would minimize that. And I think that if you put the other vegetables and some vinegar in, you will get a better smell. More like soup.
I understand though. I can’t stand the lingering smell of food. I like how it smells when I’m cooking steak, but am ready for it to be gone after I’ve eaten.
