Not absorbing meds

So I’ve been eating keto for 7 wks now and I know this is TMI but I just went to the bathroom and saw what looked like one of the meds I take floating in the bowl. I didn’t look closer (cause ew) but now I wish I would’ve because it looked like my Wellbutrin pill I take for anxiety. If I’m not digesting or absorbing my meds then that could be a bad thing. I haven’t taken my meds yet today so it would’ve been from yesterday. So my question is, has anyone experienced anything like this? Where you aren’t digesting meds or something properly? This sounds ridiculous but I can’t figure out why I would’ve just pooped it out and it isn’t a med that I can just stop taking so it’s important that I’m absorbing it. I do not have my gallbladder anymore but it’s been gone for like 8 yrs and hasn’t created this problem before. I’ve also been on nexium/Prilosec for like 20 years because I have hiatal hernia which means I have heart burn all the time no matter what. Any insight would be appreciated since this is a weird subject to try to google lol. Thanks!

I wouldn’t take medication but if you want to… you can crush the medication between two metal spoons and mix with liquid or food if it needs to be taken with food.

Have you tried not taking nexium/Prilosec for a week just to see if your heart burn returns?

The reason why you’re not digesting the anxiety medication could be because of the nexium which you may not need anymore because you’re not producing as much stomach acid as you did when you were consuming grains.

”…It is important to review the medication list for extended release formulations and note that the outer shell can be excreted whole in the stool. …” …More

Very true, those types of meds kill the digestive system.

Most people aren’t taking medication because they “want” too, and telling somebody to crush one is incredibly irresponsible. If a med is a high dose time release you could do SERIOUS harm by doing that, hopefully the OP knows better.

I think this is what happened. After seeing the pill I went and looked at my meds and realized they were extended release so it was probably the Shell. I’ve just never seen a tablet have a shell before. Usually it’s a capsule that I’ve seen before. Thank you for the info!

I have been trying to wean off of it or at least not take it daily. I don’t know if it’s something I’ll ever get away from completely since my issue isn’t GERD and it won’t ever just go away but I’m working on it now to see if I can reduce how much I take since they’re so awful long term. Thank you for the reply
