Normalising fasting BSL

(Elizabeth ) #1

Hi, I’m new to the forum so apologies if this question has been covered before.

I’m doing keto and IF to try and normalise my fasting bsl and lose weight.

I track my bsl pretty closely with a blood sugar monitor and all my readings are within normal range except my fasting bsl each morning which is all over the place, between 5.0 - 7.0. From what I understand this is probably reflection of fatty liver/ hepatic insulin resistance.

My question is : have other people had success in normalising their morning bsl and if so, how long did it take?

I have lost 9kg so far, 40 more to go :roll_eyes::roll_eyes::roll_eyes:.

TIA

The thread I read immediately before yours contained this which might be relevant to your morning blood sugar reading;

I have type 2 diabetes and have only ever seen normal fasting blood sugar in the morning in January this year when I ate zero carb with no dairy or sweeteners so that was meats, fish, animal fat & salt. It took a week to get normal numbers and after a week of regular keto in Feb the numbers were back up above normal & haven’t been back that low since. But that’s just my messed up system & may not be relevant to you.

My fasting bg is all over the place, only consistent reading I get is day 3-4 onwards of a water fast when it will be predictable.

It’s important to recognise that your bg level is a very dynamic system and taking a single point in time snapshot is likely to mislead and cause unnecessary anxiety - leading to elevated bg :slight_smile:
If you’re having regular blood tests then A1c might be better measure to focus on and also bg at other times of the day to give you better picture (or even a continuous glucose monitor if possible)

mine are stable and in normal range now, FBG is the last number to come good. my afternoon numbers were the first. A1c 5.3%
google dawn phenomenon for more detail

I didn’t IF, just no sugars, no starches and it took a couple of months. I was on about 20-30g carb
