I’ve lost 15 kg on the keto diet in three months and do regular IF and EF. I’ve also had non stop periods for three months now. A consultation with gynaecologist confirms a uterine fibroid and I don’t know if this diet has contributed/ contributing to this. My GP wants me to stop my keto lifestyle due to this. I’m so confused and stressed. Any help please?
Non stop period
I’m it a doctor, but I believe that is coincidental. Possibly the diet is helping regulate some hormonal irregularities and that is temporarily exacerbating a condition that was already there, but most likely they’ve simply reached the point where this simply happens. I have uterine fibroids and had unbelievable and continuous periods for greatly extended amounts of time well before starting Keto. They gave me a Mirena implant, which has helped, but I still have long and frequent periods and most likely will until I go through menopause. The only other option was burning the uterine lining or a hysterectomy and, as I have Ehlers Danlos and scar badly, I selected the non-surgical route.
I would stick with it as it’s likely to be your hormones relabancing themselves.
From what Iv’e heard, Myomin is very effective at getting rid of uterine fibroids, Recommended by many alternative Docs.
As far as I can remember it’s best taken in combo with a really good systemic enzyme formula such as Blockbuster AllClear or Dr William Wong’s Zymessence (both better than Vitalzym)
If you do a search for “Myomin uterine fibroids” and “uterine fibroids systemic enzymes” you should find some interesting info.
Just remembered, The other thing that Dr William Wong suggests with uterine fibroids is to stop eating any foods with high phytoestrogen content such Flax and Soy because they promote the growth of fibroids (driven by estrogen) …Although I very much doubt you are eating those on a Keto diet
I ate the SAD and would bleed for up to 9 months at a time. What do they suggest we eat!
Phooey! Just KCKO
I had a uterine fibroid on SAD. Not sure how long you’ve been keto, but why blame a few months of keto for years of SAD?
Also, flax causing bleeding is REAL. I was having a daily flax muffin when I started low carb. At first I just had spotting, then bleeding, and then almost hemorrhagic bleeding. My doctor assured me it was “just peri-menopause”. I started googling around and found that flax’s phytoestrogens can cause bleeding. Within 48 hours of my last flax muffin, bleeding stopped, after 8 weeks of heavy bleeding.
Lest you doubt it’s power, apparently now it’s a “thing” to “seed cycle”–https://theherbalacademy.com/seed-cycling-for-hormonal-balance/ Not recommending that, but it just goes to show that phytoestrogens in flax and other seeds DO have a hormonal effect. So if you are eating a lot of flax, take note.
Thank you for all this information. I currently eat greens, fats and protein. No flax or chia seeds. I do however consume a small handful of pecsn and macadamia nuts. I am really frustrated how the medicals jump to their own conclusions and offer no treatment bar surgery
So I’ve been on ketogenic way of life for 10 weeks now and have lost 21lbs. Feel really good. However I have fibroids and had to have a mirena coil fitted 3 years ago to ebb the flow! It did calm down a lot. How for the past month just over I started bleeding heavily on 30th july my birthday and not stopped since. Very heavy and clotting. I have contacted my GP and she said I am to keep an eye on it for the next couple months and I may need to go for another scan. She is really pleased I have lost weight and says its amazing. But just reading this blog. I do have on average 2 tbsp of chia seeds 5 days a week mixed in with my greek yogurt and nuts. Should I stop having them for say a week and see if that makes a difference.
Your advice would be most appreciated.
