Hi peeps!

This isn’t much of a keto post, but more looking for some words of encouragement from you lovely people. I have a job interview tomorrow for a promotion within my department. Never in my adult life have I had the opportunity to go up in any job so I’m feeling a little nervous!
Do you guys have any tips for getting through the interview? I’ve prepped, rehearsed, made notes but I feel more nervous than ever, and I’m going round in circles (think hamster on a wheel!) so I’ve decided to just go in and be natural, be myself.
I’m a massive bag of nerves right now. I’m currently sitting in the garden with a cup of tea and a cigarette and I don’t smoke! :joy: I can’t drink and I can’t comfort eat so I’m smoking!!

Sounds like you’re already totally prepared! Just be confident in your abilities when talking about yourself and be ready to have an answer to why you think you deserve a promotion in case they ask. I had some luck last year and had 3 promotions w/ 3 raises within an 8 month period (I really don’t know why, I just keep doing the same thing every day LOL) Good luck!!

You got this!! Sounds like you have done everything possible to prepare. Walk in with your shoulders back and head held high!! Keep us posted!

Well done you!! That’s the key really isn’t it?! Consistency and being yourself! Thank you!:blush:

I interview people all the time, so from my own experience I’ll say be yourself (I can tell when people are being over the top phony), be confident, make eye contact, avoid saying “uhhh” or “ummm” when you’re stuck on an answer, smile, and don’t stress!! You got this, good luck :+1:t4:

Winning is significantly influenced by confidence.

Not arrogance, but solid competent confidence.

The path to confidence is calmness and balance.

I recommend physical exercise or another physical stressor like sauna. Cold showers… whatever you’re able to do… It helps to relieve mental stress.

The other recommendation is visualization. See yourself in the role. Imagine your new workday with new responsibilities and new relationships with the people around you. “Be” the new person in the new role.

Be cooool and professional.

Good luck.

Thank you Beccs! :kissing_heart::kissing_heart: duly noted! I’m gonna avoid saying ‘Um and uhh!’ :kissing_heart:

Awesome! Visualization will help massively. I’m already so geared up for doing this new job, I almost feel like I’m already doing it! Thanks for your advice @Karim_Wassef :blush:

I would start off by say that you do not free base anymore.:flushed:

Hi. I read recently that saying or thinking “I’m nervous” brings up negative connotations within us. We see nervousness as a bad thing. But, nervousness is just a form of excitement, and we see excitement as a good thing. So, change your dialogue, both internal and audible, to instead be “I’m excited”.

Next, put some present tense positive affirmations into your mind and repeat them as much as possible from now until your interview (and then continue them when you are on the first day of your new job😉.) Some examples are I’m calm, confident, and capable.

Both of these helped me immensely recently when I had to do a public speaking on short notice. I’m not at all a public speaker and yet after just a couple days of practicing these ideas I walked into the meeting completely calm. It actually surprised me.

Best wishes!

I do wish you well
I take a couple of deep breaths (imperceptible) before each answer. It kind of calms and orders my thoughts. If you are stuck just smile and say 'I would just like to consider that for a moment '.
Good luck - let us know how you get on!

If you have done the preparation then you’ve got it! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve interviewed folks that don’t make that effort and it shows, BIG TIME. I’m a Gen X, so I get impressed when I receive a thank you note after an interview,. I don’t even care if it’s by email or interoffice. It stands out because again, I have so many that don’t make the effort.

My 2 cents  BEST OF LUCK!! And put that cigarette down!

Let me echo what the others have said and say it sounds like you’re ready! Definitely make sure you practice the two questions you know will come up: Why are you interested in this position? Why should we hire you for this position? In your responses, make sure you are thinking about how you can positively impact the organization (not how the job will benefit you personally). You got this!

(Justin ) #18

Walk in like you own it! Chest out and chin high and smiling. Firm handshakes and look into the eyes. When you are asked how are you today? I always tell people I am fantastic and it throws them and they always remember that. Be confident and own it. If you know all your stuff nothing to worry about. The person interviewing you should be worried about you taking their job! Go kill it!

Make eye contact.

Watch your body language and don’t fidget.

Listen more than you talk.

Know your resume.

Ask questions that show your interest in the company.

Good luck Clare!

I didn’t read every comment beforehand but I would say relax, be confident and know you’re worthy of the opportunity and look people in the eyes when speaking. Don’t let your attention wander about the strange office and stay focused. Don’t overdo it on coffee or tea before the interview! Good luck Claire Bear…:cowboy_hat_face:
