I’ve been doing the ketogenic for about 6 weeks now. My goals were to lose about 10 pounds and also see if it helped with inflamed joints. I’m been thru a couple of rough years with chemo and surgical menopause and am doing great. I’ve always been in good health and had no bad health habits and ate primarily a Mediterranean diet…with lots of fruit and veggies. I’ve been doing blood ketone monitoring and logging my macros and calories daily. I’m averaging around 1250 calories a day, 73 percent healthy fats, 22 percent protein and 5 percent net carbs. My net carbs are avg. 15 and I always keep it under 20g/day. I’m walk 3.5 miles a day and am eating super healthy good food. My joints are feeling better so am pleased with that but the weight has not budged. Been getting some bad calf muscle cramps so have ramped up on Ketoaide and supplements…MVI with Calcium, Vit D3, Magnesium. I’ve been eating lots of greens, spinach, asparagus…but keeping within my carb limits.
I do some IF by just not eating until noon somedays. Getting frustrated that I’m not losing any weight…any suggestions! Thank you!!!
No weight loss...no bueno....need help/1
Your numbers look good to me. Have your measurements changed? Do you feel more energetic? Sleeping better? Better mood? Reduced Cravings? I celebrate these NSV’s when the scale gives me grief.
Thank you. I’m really trying. Yes to all of the above with the exception of sleep. That one is a work in progress.
I am really liking this as I don’t feel hungry all the time and feel like I’m eating really healthy food. I have avoided fat most of my life so the healthy fat thing as a revelation.
I did watch a YouTube today with a nice gal that talked about artificial sweeteners. I have been using liquid stevia primarily but also Torani sugar free in some things and learned that might be a problem with weight loss.
I’ll stop the Torani’s and keep ketoing on!
It’s well-known that women who have restricted their calories for a long time often find that their bodies put on lean tissue, even while burning fat. Muscle fiber being much denser than fat, this can cause the scale weight to remain unchanged, while body fat is nevertheless being lost. Not only that, but weight loss is slower when one is close to one’s ideal weight. So you could very well be having both things going on. If your clothing size is going down, that’s a sign you’re in ketosis and doing everything right, even if your weight isn’t decreasing.
Your scale wants to drive you crazy, so as @Aimingfor139 suggests, don’t look at it; just cling to all the non-scale improvements you are seeing.
Thanks Paul! I’m grateful for the response! I’ll keep keto trucking on and see what happens. I did do body measurements yesterday so now I can track this a bit too. I really like the keto lifestyle so far.
Thank you for the helpful words of wisdom!
