Night sweats and keto

(Kelley Barrigar) #1

I’m a very healthy, keto adapted female athlete and I get night sweats worse with Keto ( got them before, too). But I also wear long sleeves to bed, I catch a chill at night if I don’t wear a long sleeve shirt, but then I sweat thru it:woman_facepalming:t2::woman_shrugging:t2::rofl:

One of the Keto Woman podcast episodes (one of the question and answer ones) with Dr. Annette Bosworth had a question from a woman about increasing night sweats. You might want to try listening to them. I thought it was interesting.

:grinning:

I found a paleohacks thread where this question is discussed. Most of the replies encourage hydration and few say more magnesium. It might be as simple as making sure your electrolytes (including salt) are balanced. Salt is probably the most important mineral of all. Keeping adequate levels of sodium helps regulate other minerals.

Hey! Thanks for response! I’ve subscribed to that podcast, I just need to listen! Do you happen to know which episode?

Hey there! Thanks for responding! I watch my salt and electrolytes very closely, but I do wake up thirsty sometimes!? Weird. Lol! I always load up on an electrolyte pack when I wake. And use sea salt fairly frequently. I may up the magnesium…I think i May have been fighting something off this week, too. I feel like being “sick” whilst on keto isn’t like being sick on your typical diet, because there’s so much less sugar there to feed the sickness. So “sick” on keto is more like a general fatigue or malaise. Anyone else like this?:woman_shrugging:t2: I do think that the night sweats are metabolism related because I’m a lb lighter today:rofl::rofl::woman_facepalming:t2: Probably sweat!!:rofl::woman_shrugging:t2:

I think it’s either #62 (12/28/2018) or #63 (1/3/2019).

I’ve been getting the night sweats recently, because my metabolism seems to have revved itself up. Fortunately, I can sleep with my shirt off, as long as my legs are wrapped up. I inherited my father’s circulation, and my feet get cold if they’re not bundled up, even when the temperature is 90°F/32°C.

Adrenals are being fatigued by too much exercise is my best guess and not enough calories? A caloric restricted diet can cause amenorrhea (no periods) and vaginal dryness very much like menopause so guess what? The adrenals are providing most of the female hormones other than what little you get from the pituitary gland but not as much as the ovaries, then you have the hypothalamus that controls body heat but that also controls the release of eggs from the ovaries?

Keto aside. I use to get them all the time. I narrowed it down to heating my body up all day(I work construction) and not cooling down before bed. A shower isnt enough to cool the core down. Its far worse in the summer. I bought a house with a pool a few years back and jump in for 15 to 20 min. every day. No more night sweats unless I overindulge. It has to be the fact that im getting the core cooled down before bed now. Maybe a cool bath
