Need to ask does drinking your coffee with Torani Sugar Free syrup keep you on your Fast?
Thanks So Much
Newbie, Sorry troubles with eyes and searching for anything
@Pas Welcome to the forum!
My understanding is that Torani contains sucralose (Splenda), which technically is carb-free. Clearly that’s far better than refined sugar. But there are several considerations to explore. Rather than repeat a lot of these factors here, I’d suggest you search the forum for topics like: artificial sweeteners, sucralose, and intermittent fasting. Lots of things to learn about the pros/cons of these in a carb-restricted context.
I’m guessing that much of what might work well for you (or not) depends on what your overall objectives are by fasting in combination with your current health situation. Lots to consider and it’ll likely take some legwork on your part to make informed choices.
Best wishes!
p.s. - I appreciate you’ve said you have trouble searching, but asking folks to repeat all the involved discussions about these topics again here is bit of a lift. Perhaps ask for assistance from someone nearby in performing the searches?
Welcome to the forums!
You ask a good question. Technically, a fast is 0 calories, and yet some people find that they need bone broth or perhaps a bit of fat in order to fast successfully. So the answer is not black-and-white.
You might want to check out our Fasting forum, to see whether the answer to your question has been discussed there. You can also search on “fasting” and “sucralose” in the forum search function, which works pretty well, certainly much better than the search functions on social media sites, which don’t want you to find anything.
Artificial sweeteners are another much-discussed topic on these forums, and you might want to search on “artificial sweeteners” in general, and not just on sucralose.
The recognised expert on fasting is Dr. Jason Fung, a Canadian nephrologist who treats many of his patients’ kidney problems by having them fast. He has a book, The Obesity Code, which I’m sure can answer your question; also an Internet search on his name will turn up lots of useful material. If you are on Facebook, you might want to check out the WTF (Willing to Fast) group, which is based on Dr. Fung’s ideas, and which is (or was) run by one of the moderators of this site, @marklifestyle. I believe the group is members-only, but I’m sure they’ll let you join if you ask.
Group still runs. It will be going full bore after the Holidays with a fasting reset. Initally I was a admin on Jason’s main site but as he moderated his stance of extended fasting ( legal reasons) I had to professionally not be seen as representing Jason in any way, shape or form. Ultimately what this means is that I and our group embrace Fung’s original stance that a 14 day fast is not dangerous to your health.
I have studied many fasting groups from over the last 300 years. ALthough some of their conclusions may be off, their observations are not. In particular the Hygienist came up with autophagy in 1929 calling it autolysis as they understood it to be an enzyme, knowing nothing about DNA or cellular biology at the time.
Some time back I made this group Private and I cannot undo that. If you really want to be a member, PM your FB ID and I will send out an invite
The link doesn’t seem to work. Is this group classified on facebook as “visible”? I do find a WTF group but it appears to possibly be a completely different topic, not sure.
As Mark said, you have to PM him to get an invite.
Right FB has some rules about making a hidden group public. We went hidden years ago to protect some very prolific “ketoverse” folks
Great question and here is my two cents, as others said search for the artificial sweeteners topics lots there,if a little sweetness helps you stay true to this WOE then go for it. It is better to use all the tools to make this work. Sometimes something as small as a bit in your coffee makes the entire day better.
I do drink black coffee 80% of the time, but also make a nice fatty coffee with a splash of Torani! The other 20%
