I am 6’7” and am way up to 355 lbs. What should be my carb limit per day?

20g. Same for everyone at the start.

As @LeCheffre suggests, carbs are 20g net to ensure ketosis and the quickest and safest way to reach adaption.

Thank you…this is really hard to start and change.

It’s hard to start. It’s tough for a month. It’s easy after six weeks. It’s easy to fall off after six months. It’s hard to get back on when you go astray. But, if you find the groove and build the right habits, it’s easy.

Thanks for the advice, I am wondering if Stevia is allowed in keto?

Generally, yes. Some folks don’t tolerate it well, so your mileage may vary. I find it goes from a workable flavor to horrible within a packet, so don’t really touch the stuff.

I find it useful to work to lower my artificial sweetener use as I go. I dunno that I’ll ever get to zero, but I’m way down from what I was. Other folks tolerate all manner of sweeteners with no apparent downside.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #8

@Toobgdave If you start feeling unwell at the beginning of your ketogenic diet, this is most likely the result of not getting enough sodium (the kidneys excrete it at a higher rate in the absence of carbohydrate), so be sure to keep your salt intake up and stay hydrated by drinking to thirst (on the other hand, don’t force fluid, either). Be prepared for lower performance in your exercising, as well; for endurance, keto is great, and your performance will eventually improve as you become fat-adapted. In the meantime, don’t exercise too much right now, you want to give your body a chance to become fat-adapted. Everyone has different reactions to each of the artificial sweeteners, so if stevia doesn’t work for you, one of the others might.

Thank you for the reply Paul. I am really struggling with this new plan of eating. I feel so tired and my body aches. I am going through withdrawals craving my usual morning oatmeal, my apple a day and this crazy craving for ice cream. I am eating bacon and eggs for breakfast, a large salad with my vegetable carbs for the day for lunch and 1 lb. of 80/20 ground beef hamburger for dinner. I am using MFP to log my diet and manage my macros to keep within my 20 carb rage and fat and protein levels. I am 6’7” and previously a nutritionist had me on 2,200 cal a day p.o.e… What am I doing wrong?
